Editorial Reviews

Library Journal

Beam explores new ways to become deeply involved in the painting process, to interpret one's own life, and to see the world in new ways. She contrasts different media and the varying opportunities for creating texture, light, color, depth, and mood. Beam offers more than 25 techniques to help artists discover their unique inner selves. Recommended for public libraries. Specialized art libraries should also consider Peggy Hadden's more in-depth The Artist's Quest for Inspiration.

In a slump, live in an isolated place without art friends, always dreamed of being an artist...buy this book, NOW.

Mary Todd Beam is clear that her purpose it to help you develop your vision and artistic voice. She has juicey visuals and the text is written as if you were reading her notebook, annotated of course. Work from the front to back, or pick any page and work at what strikes you and what you have on hand. Or place an order with Cheap Joe's, five dollars gives you same day packing, and try something totally new and probably awesome. As Joseph Campbell said, "Follow your bliss." also , "Jump." Don't wait another day, this is like having Mary Todd Beam in your studio whether it is a T.V. table, you lap of full tilt.

    Definitely has the Creative Edge

Love it. I have not even done the examples and exercises, and I have new ideas flowing in connection with my own artwork. Inspiring. Fresh imagery and generous sharing of ideas and knowledge. Thanks Mary Todd Beam from Kate.
