Overview

Few of us can venture outside on a clear, dark night and not pause for a silent, reflective look at the stars. For countless centuries, people have felt a sense of wonder about the heavens. How did our universe come into being? Has it always been here? Is our existence due to random chance or supernatural design? Is God "out there"? If so, what is He like?

Traditionally, the church has answered such questions with Scripture, while science has contributed theories and formulas of its own. Torn between a deep respect for church doctrines and an intellectual need for answers that support what their senses are telling them, many Christians have avoided such discussions altogether.

Actually, the two sides are no longer that far apart. In The Creator and the Cosmos, astronomer Hugh Ross explains how recent scientific measurements of the universe have clearly pointed to the existence of God. Whether you're looking for scientific support for your faith or new reasons to believe, The Creator and the Cosmos will enable you to see the Creator for yourself.

To the person who wrote the 1/1/08 review. Dr. Ross, the author, has a Ph.D. in physics. He's much more informed than you. I have read this book and seen several of his DVD lectures. He knows what he's talking about. It's not junk science. (I have college degrees in both chemistry and physics and can recognize this.) Yes, the earth does oscillate in it's orbit by approx. +/- 0.5 million miles (that's smaller than you claim). But the time that it spends at each extreme is relatively short and the enormous mass of the earth does not have a chance to appreciably heat up or cool, thus producing a relatively constant temperature, with just a speck of fluctuation. If it's orbit were consistantly closer or farther, then it's temperature would indeed be appreciably hotter or cooler. That's the point that Dr. Ross is making.

This book is a no nonsense look at the scientific enterprise with an equally reverent tone regarding scripture. It is a realistic attempt to discern as much truth as humanly possible, wherever and whatever that truth may be. It is a must read for any thinker plagued by the existential dichotomy.

Very good book for anyone interested in science and/or religion. Easy to understand. Shows that you can trust scientific evidences and still be a Christian. Dr. Ross is fair and comprehensive in showing that the Bible is an accurate(not complete) record of creation.

The author of Creator and the Cosmos, Dr. Hugh Ross, is a highly respected astronomer and scientist and pastor. This book is a well-written and reasonable approach to the integration of Christian faith and science. In an era of "Evolution vs. Creation" debates in our public schools, and highly polarized and politicized debates among the scientific and religious community, Dr. Ross offers a unique and refreshing look at the two natures of revelation in history - both special revelation (scripture) and general revelation (science). In Creator and the Cosmos, one of his first books, Dr. Ross lays out the evidence in nature for the God of the Bible, as well as discusses the Day-Age interpetation of the Genesis creation account. This book will give you a refreshing look at issues of faith and science.

Case example of Hugh Ross' scientific analysis: 'If the Earth were one half of one percent closer to the sun, water on Earth would boil off. If the Earth were one half of one percent farther from the sun, all the water would freeze.' - Hugh Ross The distance varies by over 3% in a given year, yet waters don't boil or freeze. The distance between Earth and Sun is near 92 million miles. The change in distance due to the orbit of the Earth around the Sun is around 3 million miles. Hugh Ross isn't about science, whether he is intentionally being deceptive for profit or for the benefit of the beliefs he wishes people to share, the science he presents and represents is junk science. His views are distorted and you will be deluded if you believe in the mockery of science that he tries to present. If you are just looking to feel validated about your beliefs, regardless of the validity of the arguments then this book will be good for you.
