Overview

Meaghan Smith makes her proper debut with The Cricket's Orchestra, a full-length album that incorporates all four songs from The Cricket's Quartet EP. Although it's tempting to liken Smith's songs to those found on Norah Jones' own jazz-pop debut, The Cricket's Orchestra has its share of unique quirks, including flashes of hip-hop scratching and rich, eclectic production courtesy of Les Cooper. "If You Asked Me" has a big-band arrangement and a vibraphone solo, "Soft Touch" boasts an accordion and strings, and "You Got Out" is relaxed rockabilly in the manner of early k.d. lang. Many of the remaining songs find Smith playing the part of an acoustic singer/songwriter, with Cooper dialing down the production in order to highlight her vocals.

I have to say that I had the unexpected pleasure of seeing Meaghan Smith and her wonderful band play a year ago, and we were instantly hooked. What a fresh, exciting musician. Her band is right on target and they work so well together. Her songs are whimsical, and real. They come straight from the heart. This album would make a great gift for you or someone who is looking to try out a new artist with a really great sound. She has been touring with Jools Holland, KD Lang, appearances with Sarah McLachlan, and is soon to be touring with Chantal Kreviazuk. You won't be disappointed!!!

I heard this on NPR one day and ordered when I got home. My husband and I have wildly different interests in music, but we both find this great to sing along to...and the kids love it, too. Especially "heartbroken". I'll sometimes catch my 6-year old singing it to himself. I was logging in today to see if a new album had been released... no such luck. We've had this album for about a year now and we still listen to it at least once a week.

I first heard about Meaghan Smith when she had a song 5 More Minutes on Grey's Anatomy last year. Since then she's had two more songs on One Tree Hill and she's been on a few tours. She has yet to come to Utah though! Her music is refreshing yet familiar. It's uplifting and soothing and energizing all at the same time. My only complaint is that there's not more of her out there! But that's only a matter of time...

This girl is WONDERFUL! I got to see her live when she opened for KD Lang with her band. They were so fantastic. She's not only very sweet, but brilliantly talented. Her music is vintage sounding but done her own way. It's fresh, it's new, GET IT YOU'LL LOVE IT!!! And I agree, it's only a matter of time before she's huge!

I just listened to Meaghan Smith's music on her website to see what the fuss was all about. I'm not usually into this kind of music, but I was so pleasantly surprised! This is Norah Jones with a healthy, much needed dose of pizazz, Fiest a little more accessible, a much cooler Madeleine Peyroux, and not as folksy and blase as all the other female singer songwriters I so often hear. This is unique and original music and I am a fan. Thank you Meaghan!

I've been a fan of Meaghan for a while and her music keeps suprising me! Oh! her voice is so soothing, clear and smooth, you almost feel her music sliding through your ears! Her lyrics poetic yet relatable and accessible. I recently saw her perform and bought her CD. These days, rarely do I find an album on which I love all the songs!
