An Epic Journey into the Past and Future
Will there be a price to pay for the choices made? Will love and loyalty overcome all?
The Crimson Dream (A Vampire Escape)
Samuel must be freed, before he perishes inside prison, and if ever he hopes to be reunited with the woman he loves. Magdalene and Finn are hiding out with Auntie and her many mugs of dark rum. When time takes a reverse turn, back to the days of Ottawa’s old past in the 1900s, Sir William seduces the upper class ladies with the aplomb of a gentleman. He unleashes his vampire lust and orchestrates a life-altering night for his prized hybrid son. And then returning to present-day Ottawa, an ingenious escape is somehow carried out by David Three Rats and the Coffey boys – if only they can remain focused they’ll do anything for their dearest friend. In the end the real truth will be learned – who lives and who dies, who dreams and who hides.

Patricia McCarthy notes in the introduction to The Crimson Dream

Patricia McCarthy notes in the introduction to The Crimson Dream, her sixth novel in 10 years in a series of vampire tales, that perhaps it’s time for her to move into a different sub-genre in fantasy fiction.
While she certainly has the talent for writing in many genres, switching won’t be an easy decision. She has built up a fan base in paranormal fantasy field that was enough to sustain her through the Crimson books. It won’t be easy to leave behind those supporters or the loveable cast of characters that inhabit her novels.
McCarthy’s strength is an ability to create engaging characters and place them in circumstances that push them and that would serve her in any genre. In addition to fantasy, she should do well in crime and mystery and modern or historical romance or erotica.
The Crimson Dream features the love story of Samuel and Magdalene Crimson, their young son Finn, Auntie Aileen, the Coffey brothers and their sidekick David Three Rats.  These three bounders are the Trailer Park Boys on paper rather than TV. Even the ancient megalomaniac Sir William is an engaging character.
Samuel has been framed for the murder of a high ranking policeman and placed secretly in the old jailhouse in Ottawa, which is under a city-wide curfew because of deaths that appear to be vampire killings. The police are trying to find Samuel’s accomplices while Magdalene and the boys existing right under those nose as they search for the vampire who framed Samuel. They also have to spring him from the jail in a risky breakout bid.
McCarthy completes the story with an escape for some of her characters. As for herself, time will tell whether she branches out. McCarthy is also an inspiration for independent authors for ongoing marketing and promotional and the well laid out and easy to read format of her books.
