The Crimson Pact Volume One [NOOK Book]

Not your typical demon stories. Something for everyone~!

The Crimson Pact is an anthology based on the story " The Failed Crusade". The premise here is that demons have come thru the veil, and are loosed upon the universe to wreak havoc in different ways depending on the type and level of demon, and world they find themselves in. The participants in The Crimson Pact have sworn a blood oath, doing whatever it takes to defeat and drive them from their world. It is interesting to see where the stories lead given the origin story's parameters. Every take is different in time and perspective. Many times I would find that the story ended too soon for my liking and was pleased to hear that in the next edition some authors may return, so if you were hoping for more in a particular story, you'll definitely want to pick up the next volume. Some were very short and yet complete with a charming ending, others varied in length and scope. Pros: I enjoyed the various perspectives, worlds, and timelines. There was a good variety of protagonists, and the demon's perpetuation of evil in new and interesting ways. Cons: There was a segment where there were a few submissions that were similar in type and I found that wasn't a good fit with me, (not my demographic~! LOL) so it was a bit tedious until I found one more to my genre. Perhaps if they were not in a cluster and separated out amongst the rest it would have helped. Out of 26 short stories it is difficult to whittle it down to a few stand outs, but a shout out must be made to my favorites, in order of appearance: Jess Hartley for "To Duty Sworn", Patrick S. Tomlinson for " Monsters Under the Bed", Kathy Watness for "Sins of the Father", Kelly Swails for " Frankie's Girl", and Suzzanne Myers for "Withered Tree". Submissions for this EBook project are from indie authors, flash fiction authors and established authors, together to create this project where the authors are paid based on EBook sales and not an upfront fee. This is also a great opportunity for newbie authors to get published. Anthologies are a great way to get a taste of many authors' style of writing and see if that is someone you'd like to read more of in the future. Overall it was an entertaining read, and I'm looking forward to the next installment to see what happens and catch up on some of my favorite authors.

Great book, fast pace and a must read!!

The Crimson Pact is an anthology that introduces a group of humans who have vowed to destroy demons that have escaped their world to wreck havoc in other worlds. All the stories share a common theme, but each author showcased has brought their own unique creativity to the table and has created different worlds and situations. I would even go as far as say that this book is a great blend of genres. I have read my fair share of anthologies, but this book truly is unique in that all the stories have the same basic background, but the authors are allowed free reign on where they want to take the story. Most Anthologies share a common genre but this book shares a common background.

All the stories were well written, some characters were more developed than others, but this is the first book and we will hopefully see more to come. All the story lines were well developed with just enough wit and charms to keep the reader interested. I did enjoy the book, and hope that the authors do not take to long in getting the full books or second installment out in stores soon.

There are a total of 26 short stories in the book, and they range from present day to futuristic, horror to sci-fy. I would recommend this book to people who are looking for new authors, new genres or even it they just want to read something different.

Loved it! Must read!

I am new to flash fiction, but I am hooked with the Crimson Pact. Already I can't wait for the next edition, it has got under my skin more than any other type of sequel. Especially since there are so many stories in one book. I really loved 3 of them: The Failed Crusade by Paul Genesse and Patrick Tracy, Inside Monastic Walls By Chante McCoy, and Stained With Nightmare Juice by Isaac Bell. The best part about this was that it only costs 5 bucks. a thoroughly good read!

Fun read - something for everyone.

The fun thing about the crimson pact is that it consists of a common theme that runs the genre gamut. There is high fantasy, sci-fi, urban fantasy and so on. The book really reads interestingly from that perspective. The premise is that there was a war, and a set of powerful demons won that war. They escaped into the universe to destroy, and cause more havoc. But, as humanity usually does, people band together and form The Crimson Pact, and commit to stopping the demons at all costs. That is where all these stories begin. Each takes a different angle on the premise, and pens their stories with a different style.

So far, my favorite story is "The Things that Crawl," by Richard Lee Byers.
