Walsh has spent years documenting the historical oddities and artifacts around all boroughs of the city. Forgotten New York is the book version of his web site of the same name (http://www.forgotten-ny.com). Organized by borough and neighborhood, it provides subway directions and walking tours not only to historic buildings, parks, memorials, and obscure streets but also to other remnants of the old city, such as old commercial rail tracks or streets with gaslight. Certainly of interest to those who are fans of New York and those who enjoy history and the unusual in their travels, this is a necessary addition to New York libraries and optional for those elsewhere. A lovely gem of a book, The Curious Shopper's Guide presents Manhattan in its entire specialty-shopping glory. Need kitchenware? Go to the Bowery. Need underwear? The Lower East Side. It's 47th Street for a day or afternoon exploring the Diamond District. Meet the Author

PAMELA KEECH is an artist, the consulting curator at the Lower East Side Tenement Museum in New York City, and an expert on the material culture of the poor and working classes. She regularly haunts flea markets and antique shops in search of period furnishings for museums and historic houses. She is a Fellow of the American Antiquarian Society and the American Academy in Rome and co-author of The Civilized Shopper’s Guide to Rome. She lives in New York.
