From the day she was born, Rita Baxter's mother encouraged her to follow her heart. Filled with innocent dreams and faith that her hard work training to be a Prima Ballerina on New York's bright stage will lead to fortune and fame, Rita is crushed when she loses her mother and must take a job dancing in a burlesque chorus line to keep a roof over her head. Witnessing a brutal murder is the last straw. The police promise to keep her safe, but Rita has learned to be a realist. Determined to escape the Irish gang that wants her dead and start a new life for herself, Rita heads to Colorado Territory as a mail-order bride.

Jack Colton struck gold in his Central City mine, but the dark recesses of the mine mirror the lonely, dark places in his heart. He longs for a wife and family, but the only women in town interested in a hard former soldier like him aren't really interested in him at all. Tired of being pursued for his newfound wealth, Jack decides to take a chance on a mail-order bride from New York. She's supposed to be petite and beautiful, a dancer who will bring color and warmth into his cold life.

Sparks fly when they meet, both hopeful for a bright future. But murder is a poison and it followed Rita all the way from New York. Jack thought his killing days were over, but when an assassin arrives to destroy everything Jack will stop at nothing to protect his new wife...no matter the cost.

Meet the Author

Cynthia Woolf is the award winning and best-selling author of twenty-five historical western romance books and two short stories with more books on the way.

Cynthia loves writing and reading romance. Her first western romance Tame A Wild Heart, was inspired by the story her mother told her of meeting Cynthia's father on a ranch in Creede, Colorado. Although Tame A Wild Heart takes place in Creede that is the only similarity between the stories. Her father was a cowboy not a bounty hunter and her mother was a nursemaid (called a nanny now) not the ranch owner.

Cynthia credits her wonderfully supportive husband Jim and her great critique partners for saving her sanity and allowing her to explore her creativity.

A new city with new Mail Order Brides and the men they come to wed. I love Cynthia Woolf's format for her Mail Order Bride Series. A women who's willing to risk marrying a man who needs a wife for home, children, and maybe love too. Add some danger for spice and you have the perfect Romance novel. The stories are a quick read without the angst of most romance novels where you just want to knock the main characters up beside the head and tell them to "Just get on with it already!". I was given a free copy of this book for my honest review and opinion. Looking forward to the next bride in Central City!

What a wonderful read filled with adventure, romance, and humor with a touch of mayhem. Rita was a delightful character that doesn’t have any trouble telling it like it is. She is delightful and refreshing her ways are charming when it comes down to it everyone just loves her. There isn’t one of Jacks friend who wouldn’t lay down their lives to protect her and keep her safe. She is just an all around wonderful lady. Jack decided to go with a mail order bride, he thought he would know more about her getting someone who would be meek like his late wife. He didn’t quite get that, I loved how the author played this out and the way Jack came to understand what he thought he wanted wasn’t it at all. As with all of Ms. Woolf’s work this is well written with wonderful characters you have no trouble relating to. I was so invested I read this at one setting I just couldn’t put it down. I love how the story builds from the character development to the romance. I enjoyed the adventure, danger and suspense. The details the author gives are so vivid I could picture the scenes as they unfold. I totally was invested and enjoyed this story.

I'm a fan and I'm always filled with anticipation when I begin a Cynthia Woolf book, especially a historical western romance featuring a mail-order bride. I was somewhat disappointed in the romance between the hero, Jack Colton and the heroine, Rita Baxter and my inability to become emotionally engaged with them as a couple. However, I thoroughly enjoyed Jack and Rita's interaction with Jack's friends Lucky, Henry, and Robert, former members of his union army unit during the Civil War. They welcomed Rita as a player in their weekly poker game and to her husband's amusement, she started calling these strong, lovable, handsome rogues : "the boys". Their loyalty to Jack and protection of Rita, when her life is threatened, made for great action scenes and many heartwarming moments. These were my favorite aspects of The Dancing Bride and kept me completely involved with this memorable story until the very end. I look forward to learning more about Lucky, Henry, and Robert in the following books of this series and hope to see them matched up with mail-order brides of their own . I received a copy of this book from the author. All opinions expressed are my own.

Rita has always been encouraged to follow her dreams however her plans go off track with tragedy and witness of a murder. She needs to leave town and becomes the mail order bride for Jack in Colorado territory. The pathway to love for these two is strewn with danger as they find their way. Enjoyable characters and good setting to emerge the reader in the tale. Ebook from authors copy. Opinions are entirely my own.
