A new take on a regency rogue who can't stop gambling until he meets a strong woman and accepts responsibility for the consequences. Several editing errors and some misspelled words downgraded this one star.

Minor grammar and editing issues didn't detract from reading and following the story.

The Danger in Daring a Lady by Emma Locke is part of a series of tightly interwoven novels that can still be read as stand alone books. I found it to be a delightfully mischievous read. I received a copy of The Danger in Daring a Lady by Emma Locke from the publisher, via NetGalley, in exchange for a n honest review.

This is the first book in the series that I have read. Enjoyed reading about Cate and seeing such a strong heroine. Lord Darius finds a long hard road to redemption which takes time with commitment to complete and to finding the key to Cate's heart. Ebook from netgalley

I enjoyed this story for several reasons. First of all, it's not often that you see a male character as the hero of the story, who doesn't really behave in a heroic way (at least, until much later in the plot). Dare is a gambling addict who just can't stay away from the tables. He's got a family who constantly bail him out of trouble including a twin brother who almost died because of his addiction. He's got a mistress, a woman to whom he owes a large debt and is paying it off via a gigolo contract (sexual services expected, though he's broken his contract and liable to be sued as a result - and rest assured, once Dare has met Caitlin there is no going back to his mistress, so there is no cheating in the story). In short though, he's a bit of a cad. When he loses to Caitlin and ends up working with her on the farm (having never put sweat equity into anything before), he comes to admire her, respect her, and realize just how far out of reach she really is. She might not be a noblewoman, but her reputation is certainly better than his, as is her attitude. Clearly, Caitlin is the stronger character here, and I love seeing a woman who doesn't back down from a challenge. She's a bright, smart, determined, hardworking woman, making the best of her situation. She plays at the card table periodically (and she only takes calculated risks). Having Dare at her farmhouse is a temptation she never expected. Faced with that attraction to him, they share some steamy scenes together, even knowing that they will never be a marriage match. When Caitlin follows Dare back to London, the plot takes some interesting twists and turns. Having not read any of the other stories in the series, I really enjoyed meeting the characters of Dare's brothers and partners and the challenging relationship he has with them. I liked seeing Dare come to grips with his problem (though we don't really get a resolution on this front, just the promise that Dare values a relationship with Caitlin enough to make some permanent changes) and I felt like Caitlin's patience and fortitude with him would pay off. Dare has a strong moral character despite appearances, and Caitlin brings out the best in him. It was a very enjoyable read, and I look forward to catching up on some of the previous titles. 4 stars.

This is book 4 in the Naughty Girls series. Lord Darius Alexander can't pass up a wager even when he has no money of his own. Talked into playing one last hand of card, he bets the bank note that his brother has give him. Unfortunately he lost... Caitlin Hart is relieved to have won that last hand at the table. She now has the money to hire help at her farm to bring in the harvest. She didn't count on the man that lost the money to try and get it back from her. The come up with a compromise. He will work off the debt on her farm. When that debt is paid, she will give the bank note back to him. Caitlin didn't count on falling for Darius. Can her feelings ever mount to anything when she is just a country farm girl and the object of her desire is a lord? I enjoyed this story. It is not your run of the mill storyline (which I seem to be saying a lot lately, but that is a good thing!) for historical romance. I do like it when there is a class difference that must be overcome in the story as it as another dimension to the tale. Darius was the typical aristocrat at the beginning of the story (all high and mighty). He seriously thought that Caitlin would give him his money back when he explained the situation to her. But as the story progresses we see that he is growing into a man that could be admired and worth the love of a woman. I'm looking forward to the next book in the Naughty Girls series! THE DANGER IN DARING A LADY by Emma Locke is a interesting Regency Romance. #6 in the "Naughty Girls" series, but can be read as a standalone. I would suggest reading the others as well. A confirmed Rake, and gambler, Lord Darius Alexander, aka, Dare vs a feisty, intelligent Lady, Miss Caitlin Hart. A wager, a farm and seduction will have readers turning pages. Well written with engaging, but complex characters, with passion, hard work, and romance makes for an interesting read. Once again, Ms. Locke, has written a masterful, beautiful tale of redemption, and finding love, with some moments of laughter. But will Dare and Cate find their HEA? A must read! I have thoughly enjoyed this heartwarming series, the stories, the characters and the writting. Fans of Regency Romance, Historical Romance, wagers, and romance will enjoy this story. An enjoyable and satisfying read! *Received for an honest review from the author* Rating: 4 Heat rating: Mild Reviewed by: AprilR

Lord Darius/Dare Alexander is a rogue who can’t resist a bet. Caitlyn, Dare and Lord Bamber are playing cards at the local inn. Caitlyn ends up proposing one last hand first puts up a saddle then her farm to cover her bet and she wins. Caitlyn owned Southfield farm. Lord Bamber was Caitlyn’s neighbor and wants her farm. Dare had lost his brothers money and worked a bargain with Caitlin to work for the money back. As Dare and Caitlyn worked together she felt her attraction to Dare grow. I really enjoyed this story especially as Caitlyn would not back down when Dare tried to get her to just give his money back. Funny to see him expect her to give in to him about the money but also to even wash his clothes. I did snicker a lot during parts of this story. The characters were great especially Dare and all the ins and outs he goes through. I recommend. I received an ARC of this story for an honest review.

Lord Darius is a known rogue and gambler. Cate is an independent women trying to make a living running and taking care of her sister's farm. The last thing she expected was to fall in love with a gambler and known rogue, Lord Darius or Dare as he prefers to be called. Dare loses his money gambling to Cate, that his brothers have given him and he must win it back. What he doesn't expect is that Cate will repay him the money, but only if he helps her work her farm and bring in the potato crops. He agrees to a temporary stay until the money has been repaid. What happens next, well you will have to read the story. You won't be disappointed.

YES! YES! YES! Finally a woman who can go toe to toe with an overwhelmingly arrogant male. Emma Locke, I am loving it. Darius is rich, titled and full of himself but one meeting with a beautiful woman cuts him down to size. Caitlin is smart, beautiful and doesn't suffer fools. My best way of describing her is a newly discovered gem, she's rough around the edges but buried inside is the makings of a beautiful treasure. Her interactions with Darius are pure gold. She doesn't not hesitate to speak her mind but can't help have mixed feelings where he is concerned. I received an ARC of The Danger in Daring a Lady by Emma Locke in exchange for an honest review. I was already enjoying the Naughty Girls series but after reading Darius and Caitlin's story, I am not ashamed to admit that I am head over heels for these characters. My favorite book in the series.

Lord Darius Alexander has never been able to resist a wager. This leads him into lots of trouble. His family has lost complete faith in him but he doesn't really care. Caitlin Hart has been on her own since the deaths of her sister, brother-in-law and niece three years ago. She has tried to make the most of her farm and her solitary life. A wager brought these two into each other's lives. He is willing to work on her farm in order to earn the value of the voucher that he lost to her. What starts off as a working relationship leads to so much more. This is a story that will make you feel all kinds of feelings. I received a copy from the author for an honest review.

The Danger in Daring a Lady, book four in the Naughty Girl series, proclaims Emma Locke's huge talent. A libertine long confirmed as irredeemable, Lord Dare confronts the man he has become and strives to be the man he wants to be as he encounters a strong and confident woman who opens his heart to love. Stripped bare, as his past and lies are exposed, the journey the hero embarks on to rebuild his life was remarkable and touching. An exceptional heroine who sees through Lord Dare's shallow facade stands by him as he confronts his addictions and takes accountability for his past lack of responsibility. Sophisticated character analysis and instinctive dialog took this novel to a whole other level and brought home what a really great writer Ms. Locke is. Rarely have I seen the transformation of a character so far gone in their debauchery portrayed so believably and eloquently. With a presence like no other in Historical Romance Emma Locke is a writer to revel in. *I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.* *While part of a series this book can be read as a stand alone.*

Caitlin “Cate” Hart and Lord Darius “Dare” Alexander meet in a small village tavern over a game of cards. When Dare loses all he has to Cate he eventually offers to work on her farm to recover what he has lost to her. It is the first time Dare has really worked and with time he begins to feel a bit better about himself. Cat owns her farm, is a “spinster” at age 28, has trouble with the lord on the neighboring property and is lonely but I still don’t see what she sees in Dare. Perhaps his position, handsome face and physique draw her interest but the more she learns about Dare the further she should have run from him. He warned her but she did not listen. I don’t really understand why she left her farm to go to London, thought he was such a catch or any of the rest of it OR how he could make the changes he did just because of Cate and her belief in him…I also wondered if the changes would last after the end of the story. I admit I skimmed from about midway to finish since the story did not truly hold my attention and I could not really relate to the main characters. That said…there are many who did enjoy the read as I have seen in other posted reviews. I would like to thank NetGalley and Intrepid Reads for the copy of this ARC to read and review.

THE DANGER IN DARING A LADY is an extraordinary compelling story of your usual rogue and a most determined woman. Lord Darius Alexander, Dare, is a monument of idleness, a dandy, a rogue, and a gigolo. When he stops at a country inn, he cannot resist the game of wagers going on. He’s surprised to see a woman at the table, but he doesn’t mind. He shouldn’t play one more game, but when challenged, he does. He has great cards; he doesn’t really have the money, except for that bank draft entrusted to him by one of his brothers. He cannot afford to lose that draft, or else he will lose what little respect his family still has for him, and yet he plays. The beautiful woman at the gaming table is Miss Caitlin Hart; she gambles cautiously. She’s had to work hard all her life, and tending to her farm takes nearly all her time and energy. Cate knows, that fateful evening at the inn, that her cards cannot be beaten. She’s right, and Dare loses everything. He goes to see her at her farm hoping his legendary charm will sway her, but to his astonishment, he fails; she’s the one to make him an offer he simply cannot afford to refuse. It is difficult not to reveal any spoilers, because there are several, but THE DANGER IN DARING A LADY left me completely stunned, in a very, very good way. I was amazed at the complexity of the characters – Dare is unlike any rogue I have ever encountered – astonished at the turns the story took, astounded at the remarkable depth of character development. What looked like your usual tale of a seductive rake turns out to be a gripping character study as well as a story of true love. As more became known of Dare’s past, Cate was left perplexed, as was I, because I had no idea how Ms. Locke could make this story work, and I feared some implausible plot twists. And what a relief to say that the author succeeded beyond my wildest expectations; THE DANGER IS DARING A LADY is a supremely intelligent book, flawlessly written, superbly detailed, and full of many unexpected and delightful things of all sorts. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
