Overview

Christy Barnett is sleeping when her aging German shepherd Molly growls into the darkness outside her bedroom. She wakes to a dim glow provided by her Kindles screen, thankful that she had fallen asleep while reading again. The power has gone out, the world outside her window is eerily dark and silent. And Molly is wary of something that waits in the hallway, hiding in the shadows.

A dark cloud has fallen over the city of Aberdeen, MD. The population disappears in an instant. For the handful of survivors, those lucky enough to have a light source not connected to the power grid, it's more than terrifying. Theyre left alone, walking through a nightmare, and that is a fate that could be worse than death itself.

The darkness is alive and it is the reason we fear the night.

I really enjoyed this book. For someone who breaks out in a sweat at the thought of going out into the dead of night, this book was really scary, but I actually found myself so engrossed in the story and tragedy unfolding that I was surprised when I got to the end without once, having to take a break. The characters were all well thought out and their reactions to what was going on around them was exactly how I think, or hope, some of my braver friends would react - me on the other hand, I would probably hide out in a closet somewhere with a few flashlights and a box of batteries - just in case. The story itself was great and flowed well, with the right amount of breathing space in between all the suspense.  I often wonder about the repercussions of the scientific experiments being carried out around the world - how many times has disaster been averted or covered up?  We will probably never know, and it is probably better that way, but this book certainly made me think even more about what we don't know. The Dark is a great book and I highly recommend it.  It has a great set of characters, a great story line, and is told in a way that will make you think twice about switching off the light at night, and facing ......... The Dark. I really, really love book covers, and the cover of The Dark does this book justice, it is awesome - a work of art.

Reviewed by Kim Anisi for Readers' Favorite The Dark by Jason Brant is one of those horror books that you don't want to put down until you know there's a 'happy' ending - and at the same time you fear there will be no happy ending and you might want to sleep with your lights on. The Dark begins by introducing Christy, one of the main characters of the book. She wakes up, realizing that her Kindle is the only source of light she still has. Suddenly her mother appears, asking her to turn off the light and to come to her. Christy and the other characters who are introduced one after another slowly form a group. When they meet out on the roads, they quickly learn that whatever source of light they have is vital. Without light, the dark will take them. And it all seems to have something to do with an explosion on a military base - is it an experiment gone wrong? An alien invasion? Whatever it was, the main aim of the characters surrounding Christy and her faithful old dog is to get out of the dark - because at some stage batteries will run low, the lights will go out, and nobody knows whether the sun will rise in the morning. I enjoyed reading The Dark very much because it's the kind of horror that doesn't need gore and zombies to tell a story that captivates you. There should be more horror books like this; books that want to tell a story and not just shock the readers with blood and gore. A great read.

A great story, showing how science without ethics csn be the downfall of civilization. Great character building and exciting action. Tense without all the gore usually found in this genre. This is the secondbook I've read by this author and I'm ready to start the third.

I loved this book! It was engaging and intense, and it kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the events. I often felt anxious reading it. I would definitely recommend this book to horror fans that might be looking for something a little different.

Loved this book as much as I loved Jason Brant's The Hunger series and that's saying something! The Dark is a truly scary story and the explanation behind what happens is both imaginative and believable. The characters are great--I was especially fond of Aaron. And Molly, but who doesn't love a good dog character! Read this with all the lights on!

Terrifying. For those critics who complain that these characters are inept - nonsense, at is what makes them real, makes the scenario more frightening.  No super heroes - just ordinary people, my neighbors in an unimaginable situation. That is when the imagination fails and reality bends. Enjoyable, quick read that better lead to more.  Jason Brant is quickly becoming my favorite horror author.

The dark by Jason Brant is one spooky story! It ends just like it begins, with a big bang. I've said it before but I'll say it again, this author does not mess around. His books start out with so much action and it never let's up. You get all of the good stuff right from the start and it just keeps coming. Jason Brant is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors and I plan on pretty much reading anything he puts out the very moment it's released. The pacing was perfect and the characters felt so real. I had no problem identifying with any of them. I liked them, worried about them, hated a few of them and rooted for the rest. Much like Stephen King's Cell makes me not want to ever own a cell phone, The Dark makes me want to sleep with a battery powered light on or to have one on hand at all times. I never wished I had a Kindle Paperwhite with a built in light more than I do now. The book starts off with a character waking up in total darkness, saved by the light of her kindle which was such a great idea. Saved by the kindle :) I can't talk about The Dark or what it is exactly without giving anything away but I will let you know that it's freaking scary and quite unique. It's just a very different kind of story yet so eerily familiar at the same time. If the blurb along with the gorgeous cover doesn't get your attention then I don't know what will. Once again Jason Brant writes a book that is both action packed and filled with great characters. The Dark is unique, scary and just an all around great horror story that pulls at one's deepest darkest fear: the night. All of his books are well written with so much attention given to the little details. It's obvious that he takes his job as a writer very seriously yet also manages to have a fun writing his characters and their stories. The cover caught my attention a long time ago and it kept pulling at me until I finally bought it. I wish I had done so a long time ago. If I had known what I was missing I definitely would have. This is the sixth Jason Brant novel I've read and one thing that I really enjoy is getting to see how much any given author grows over the course of his/her writing career. Just like all of my favorite authors his first books were very good and it was obvious that he has a lot of talent but I'm amazed that each book that he puts out is even better than the one that came before it. I love that feeling of thinking "It just can't get any better than this" and then the next book comes out and it's even better. He has definitely honed his craft into a fine point and I can only imagine how awesome his next book will be. The Dark just hits that perfect spot for me when it comes to horror novels. This is just a great book to read while you're all alone, late at night, curled up in your favorite spot with very few lights on. When you're done reading the house will be lit up like the fourth of July :D Keep a flashlight close at hand after reading this one. You're going to need it!

"But Jason hon. Are you sure about this? We could've bought a house so much more new and modern than this..." Julia whined to her husband after seeing the their new house. It was creepy and dark with broken shutters and peeling black paint. The trees around it were all near dead or dead. The flowers were all dried and the grass was long and yellow. Not your typical first house for a newly wedded couple.<p>"Julia its going to fine. There is plenty of room when we have children and its not too far off from the school. Besides it was nice and cheap. "Jason argued back and sighed running a hand through his hair. He held Julia's hand. "Lets just try alright? You can perk up the house with your magic hands. Make it all pink if you want." They laughed and Jason pulled in. Everything was going as planned...<p>Go to the next res for pt. Two! Sorry for the inconvinience.

As I try to fall asleep, i see eyes appearing everywhere. I freak out and curl up into a ball. It was the illuminati. "Howdy kid!" He said. "Who are you?" I say under my breath. "The name's bill. As in bill chiper. I have come to do all sorts of things for you..." he walks away. I see my worsg nightmares pop up. Jeff the killer, chucky, a doubleheaded vampire, and worst of all, miley cyrus. Jeff runs at miley, the vampire, and chucky and fuses bodies to make the ultimate death mechanism. (PART 2 WILL BE RELEASED SOON AT THE NEXT RESULT)

Now, your job is to simply write a horror story that includes a deserted house in any way. There is no limit to how long it takes, but i will judge when nine people wrote. Make sure it is creepy! If you have a question, go to the next result. Post th title in the headline, but do not write who wrote it. Thanks! <p> P.S. It is alright to not write in pargraphs, but doing so increases your chance of winning. < p > is how to do them, but no spaces between. ~ &#9674 Abigail &#9674 Hey...p.p.s. if you never knew this thing, go to contet res .one
