Dark Shadows: Return to Collinwood presents a look back at four decades of the successful spooky soap opera that made sympathetic vampire Barnabas Collins a pop culture phenomenon and prompted the big-budget, big-screen Warner Bros. revival starring longtime fan Johnny Depp, directed by Tim Burton, that premieres May 11, 2012. The large format book includes color photographs and behind-the-scenes anecdotes from Kathryn Leigh Scott and three other original cast members who filmed cameo roles with Johnny Depp, Helene Bonham-Carter and Michelle Pfeiffer in the new Gothic epic. With the ongoing fascination for all things vampiric, this book about the making of the new film and the history of the original series will be an enticing volume for new and old fans alike.
This book also features hundreds of exclusive photographs of Dark Shadows then and now, along with behind-the-scenes information, production materials and unique archival elements that provide context for the Depp/Burton Warner Bros. film.
The suspenseful Gothic tales of Dark Shadows center on the wealthy but tormented inhabitants of the mysterious Collinwood estate in the small fishing village of Collinsport, Maine, where the powerful Collins family has been haunted for generations by vengeful curses and other supernatural secrets that span the centuries.

A Great Read for Dark Shadows Fans
Filled the recollections of Kathryn Leigh Scott and Jim Pierson, with help from Jonathan Frid, Lara Parker and David Selby, this book is a must for any Dark Shadows fan. The authors take us from the early days of the original soap that aired on ABC on week day afternoons from 1966-1971 right up to the present with the new movie to be released on 5/11/12. Plenty of pictures from the original series, the two theatrical movies produced by Dan Curtis in the early 1970s, the prime time revival series, the 2004 pilot and this year's movie are included. Well written, with insights from Dark Shadows insiders, and divided into chapters that can be read in order, or read at random, it's a hard book to put down.

Dark Shadows: Return to Collinwood, by authors Kathryn Leigh Scott and Jim Pierson, is clearly a labor of love, as both Mr. Pierson and especially Ms. Scott draw readers in through their thoughtful and insightful recollections ( Ms. Scott was a member of the original cast of the 1966-1971 gothic soap opera). Readers are taken on a visually stunning, well-written behind-the-scenes tour, as Ms. Scott bridges the gaps between her fond recollections of her experiences as a member of the cast of the original series to the filming of her cameo appearance (along with her co-stars Jonathan Frid, Lara Parker and David Selby) in the soon-to-be released movie from director Tim Burton in London during the summer of 2011. Readers will be delighted to see that the book contains a wealth of never before seen photographs from the 1966-1971 production; the 1991 remake; a never-before seen pilot from 2004, as well as a sneak peek behind the scenes from the set of the new movie production starring Johnny Depp. Dark Shadows: Return to Collinwood also contains insightful commentary, with a foreword contributed by Jonathan Frid (Barnabas Collins); affectionate recollections from Lara Parker (Angelique) and a poem from David Selby (Quentin Collins), each of whom, like Ms. Scott, are all fine, accomplished writers in their own right (one should make it a point to read some of Ms. Parker’s and Mr. Selby’s fictional works as well). After literally not being able to put the book down once I purchased it this week from my local Barnes & Noble, it is clear to me, as well as to any reader who comes across this intriguing look back at this legendary soap opera, that regardless of whether one is a long time or new fan, one can see how devoted, respectful, and yes, protective that Ms. Scott, as well as the other cast members who contributed to this book, are towards the legacy of Dark Shadows. Dark Shadows: Return to Collinwood is the definitive book for all fans of Dark Shadows. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. What can I tell you, its a fantastic book. Kathryn fills us in on every incarnation of Dark Shadows, from the original ABC soap, we all ran home to see, to the forth coming movie by Tim Burton, starring Johnny Depp as Barnabas Collins. It was a treat to read about the cameo appearance that Scott, Frid, Parker and Selby made in this new feature film. This is the book every fan of Dark Shadows needs for their collection, and its the ideal book for the new fans of Dark Shadows. I know their will be a wave of new fans due to the new movie and here's the best place for them to catch up on the whole world of Dark Shadows. I have every book that Kathryn has published on Dark Shadows and, once again, Kathryn out did herself. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
