Gregorian Masters of Chant "The Dark Side Of The Chant" is Gregorian's third foray into the American music scene--following the 2008 US release of "Gregorian Masters Of Chant" and "Christmas Chants" in 2009. Worldwide, Gregorian has sold over 5 million albums and has enjoyed enormous success in many, many countries with their visually stunning and mystical live shows.
"The Dark Side Of The Chant" brings the listener on a journey to the "Dark Side"--combining gothic rock tunes and medieval chant--with their professionally trained choir and full rock band. The brainchild of German music producer, Frank Peterson (Enigma, Sarah Brightman and many others..) this is the 11th Gregorian album released by Peterson and his team of producers at Nemo Studios in Hamburg.
Selections include a heavy metal version of Carl Orff's "O Fortuna" from the famous cantana, "Carmina Burana", a creative English treatment of the enormously successful single by German artist, Unhelig ("Geboren um zu Leben") as "Born To Feel Alive"--along with a violin-driven cover of the classic rock evergreen "Hell's Bells" from AC/DC. An ambrosial rendition of Within Temptation's "All I Need" and a majestic and stirring version of "Lucifer" (which was originally performed by the Alan Parsons Project) are also given a new and exciting Gregorian makeover.
Also included are four original Gregorian tracks--the F.Peterson/G. Laudahn composed "My Heart Is Burning" with its catchy vocal/guitar riff, "Black Wings" (which showcases the choir at their harmonious best singing in Latin) the poignant "Dark Angel", and a composition by long-time Gregorian producers Carsten Heusmann/Jan-Eric Kohrs and soprano, Amelia Brightman, which also features a deliciously mournful trumpet solo.
Ms. Brightman is featured as a guest vocalist on the album, along with several other female voices. Amelia has long been a creative force in Gregorian, contributing to many of their original songs. She has also toured extensively with the choir, and has become a fan favorite with her enchanting voice and charismatic stage presence.
