Overview

By condensing the sonic explorations of Meddle to actual songs and adding a lush, immaculate production to their trippiest instrumental sections, Pink Floyd inadvertently designed their commercial breakthrough with Dark Side of the Moon. The primary revelation of Dark Side of the Moon is what a little focus does for the band. Roger Waters wrote a series of songs about mundane, everyday details which aren't that impressive by themselves, but when given the sonic backdrop of Floyd's slow, atmospheric soundscapes and carefully placed sound effects, they achieve an emotional resonance. But what gives the album true power is the subtly textured music, which evolves from ponderous, neo-psychedelic art rock to jazz fusion and blues-rock before turning back to psychedelia. It's dense with detail, but leisurely paced, creating its own dark, haunting world. Pink Floyd may have better albums than Dark Side of the Moon, but no other record defines them quite as well as this one. [A remastered version was released in 2011.]

Wow! The newly re-mastered "Dark Side" CD is great! It sounds so much clearer and crisper than previous releases. If you are a Floyd fan, or want to learn more about the greatest band that ever played, definitely get this CD! It is absolutely awesome. Everything sounds so much better: the chiming bells on "Time", the piano on "Great Gig In The Sky" and "Us And Them", the tinkling change sounds on "Money". And the instrumentals sound amazing, especially "On The Run". Plus, the really cool cover art and the interesting booklet full of relating pictures makes the deal even sweeter. And if you have a DVD that supports SACD’s, I’ve heard that the surround sound is mind-blowing. Buy this CD now. You won't regret it.

A classic in every sense of the word. A turning point in rock'n'roll. This album is studied in college classes as the milestone that it is - a bridge spanning psychedelic, electronic, art and other styles of rock. This album broke a lot of ground with its extensive use of synthesizers, yet it was done so that it became more accessible for the more pop-oriented public. Synthesizers were no longer a novelty or a curiosity, this sparked a revolution in music. Also, this album is where Pink Floyd making conceptual ideas in their lyrics. This album is also played in its entirety on the live double-disc set P*U*L*S*E.

Same stuff as the 1993 cd, but this one's track spots are a little different. For example, the clocks in Time ring within the first 5 seconds of the song, not at 17 seconds, as compared to the 1993 edition. Put it in a SACD and you'll be blown away!! There was only one minor problem. My Xbox couldn't pick it up as a cd, but my other players did finely with it. I'm going to watch Wizard of OZ with, and I guarantee that Dark Side will be great.

I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the sound on this format. also they did a very good job with the surround distribution of the tracks. I was wondering if it is worth the money since I have already 2 formats of the same CD and obviously it is over 20 years old technology wise but it is worth every penny you will enjoy listening to it on your SACD player.

The Dark Side of the Moon is some of the best Pink Floyd has to offer. You'll be up all night listening to this CD over and over again. I can't wait to watch the Wizard of Oz with it! I wish I could rate this CD 6 stars!

Was I sent an email asking for me to Review: "Dark Side of the Moon". It is the "Dark Side of the Moon". It is something that can not be rated. "Everything under the sun is in tune, but the sun is eclipsed by the moon".

I cant believe someone could say that Dark Side of the Moon is slow, yeah it's drawn out, but it's good drwan out. I like hard, fast punk rock as musch as the next guy, but Pink Floyd is just genius! Dark Side of the Moon really shows off their incredible talent.
