Can Beauty tame her Beast?

Driven to his death by the demon of Distrust, Baden spent centuries in purgatory. Now he's back, but at what cost? Bound to the king of the underworld, an even darker force, he's unable to withstand the touch of another…and he's quickly devolving into a heartless assassin with an uncontrollable temper. Things only get worse when a mission goes awry and he finds himself saddled with a bride—just not his own.

Famed dog trainer Katarina Joelle is forced to marry a monster to protect her loved ones. When she's taken hostage by the ruthless, beautiful Baden immediately after the ceremony, she's plunged into a war between two evils—with a protector more dangerous than the monsters he hunts. They are meant to be enemies, but neither can resist the passion burning between them…and all too soon the biggest threat is to her heart.

But as Baden slips deeper into the abyss, she'll have to teach him to love…or lose him forever.

Includes Q&A featuring J. R. Ward, Jeaniene Frost, Nalini Singh and more!

Publishers Weekly
Showalter’s 12th Lords of the Underworld paranormal novel pays perhaps unwitting homage to If a Man Answers, a 1960s rom-com about a young wife’s attempts to use dog-training techniques to bring her husband to heel. In a vaguely described setting that might be the present-day U.S., Baden, a once-immortal warrior who was cast down by Zeus and later resurrected by Hades, plays a deadly game against Pandora to win his freedom from the god of the underworld. As part of the game, he kidnaps Katarina Joelle, a dog trainer and a brutal criminal’s bride. He dislikes and mistreats her, and she is horrified to be under the thumb of another violent man, but a spark of attraction begins growing between them. Lust eventually turns into love, but Baden is possessed by a beast called Destruction, who cannot bear the touch of another; Katarina chafes under Baden’s chauvinism; and war looms between Hades and Lucifer. Showalter’s writing has retained its erotic intensity throughout the series and has a darkly humorous edge here, but the story is excessively violent and overpopulated to an unwieldy extent. (June)

This book isn't what I wanted in the line up but it fit perfectly. If Ms. Showalter doesn't destroy my love for William and Gilly, I'll forever think there isn't a better series out there. I reread these books at least twice a year.

It's another true work of art. A story that can stand alone or be part of its series. Once you start you will want to do the whole series.

At the start of this audiobook I really wasn’t sure I cared for the direction it was going in. This is one of those series I have really loved, and for the first time, I was like “what is this?” Me, like so many others, felt surprised that we got a story about Baden, instead of William or Cameo. However, after reading a letter from Gena to her fans, I understood why. The Darkest Torment helps close loopholes, and open new story-lines by introducing new characters. I couldn’t see it at the start, but once the book got going, I totally got the madness. I really loved Katerina, with all of her sass and attitude. She is one female I can get behind and love. Baden grew on me, also once you understood why he was acting like a lunatic, and he got control of himself; I really liked the by play between him and the beast. I loved how Katerina referred to him as her junk yard dog, and decided she was going to treat and train him like a feral dog. It was funny. So why not give it a 5 star rating? ****Spoiler!!!*** Once Katerina discovered the dogs were hellhounds, I pretty much pegged where that part of the story-line was heading. It's always disappointing when i can guess part or all of the outcome of a plot line. The Darkest Torment was another steamy addition to the Lords of the Underworld. Showalter can write a love scene like no other, and combines action, sarcasm, and witty banter in such a way, that you love all of her characters, even the evil ones. I am giving it four boundless stars; I can’t wait to see what comes next...Sara

I had a hard time getting into the book initially, but after the first couple of chapters, it felt more like the rest of the series. I starting loving it just as much as the others! I would have given the book 4 stars since it didn't draw me in as quickly as the rest but I see that a couple of people reviewed the book based on the cost and I think that is wrong so I'm trying to balance it out a bit.

It Is Worth Every Penny! The fact that people are leaving reviews without reading this amazing novel is upsetting me greatly! Not only are they lowering the ratings on a book they DID NOT READ they are complaining about an author making money for...DOING HER JOB WELL! And let me tell you Gena Showalter does her job WELL! All of her novels especially the Lords series are well written with fabulous storylines! They contain both well developed male and female characters who are strong, funny and sexy! Another amazing aspect to her books is the storyline that started from the first book and is continuing throughout her entire series. You get to love all her characters and still get to hear from them from book to book. She has an amazing talent and deserves every penny she earns from this hard cover novel! In The Darkest Torment Baden is the main Lord. He is also one of the Lords we know the least about. But that does not stop her from creating a amazing and thrilling story for her readers to follow. She answers a lot of the readers questions about other characters as well and leaves us begging for more with her snippets of side stories. This is a MUST READ! But it is also a MUST READ IN ORDER! If you haven't yet started Gena's Lords of the Underworld Series START NOW! But do it with Book One! I can promise you won't want to put them down! Amazing read from an AMAZING author! WORTH EVERY PENNY! And check out her other series too! Gena Showalter knows how to write one hell of a great Paranormal Romance Novel!
