My whole sense of dieting has changed since reading this book, not to mention an improvement in my cholesterol levels. In addition to the easy-to-adopt recipes, this DASH diet book’s four-week meal plan allows me to make the right food choices every day. This book has forever changed my mindset about what I think is good for my body and the foods I’ve been eating have given me newfound energy and inches off my waist!

I was pleasantly surprised when I read how widely accepted the DASH diet is - from the U.S. government to magazines like the ‘U.S. News and World Report’ - for being a no-frills, no-fad weight-loss approach. The central hook is to lower one’s sodium by consuming about 2,000 per day. It explains why you won’t feel deprived or tired, and how research proves this out.  I thought the book did a good job articulating types of food to increase or decrease and the easy-to-read food group guidelines and serving-size table. I also liked the handy way it suggests to measure portion size. There are weekly recipes and shopping lists, and it offers ways to make the most out of breakfast, lunch and dinner by doing things like eating a protein-rich snack. Overall, I was pleased. This was a good resource for someone with hypertension or owns one too many pairs of tight pants.

Not Too Hard to Accomplish By Hgreer The Dash diet is recommended by many institutions as well as doctors. It seems to me to be easier to follow although, with any diet, it is a life style change. Extensive instruction on what to buy, how to cook it, and daily menus to follow. Good explanation on the diets history and what to expect.

The DASH diet is an outstanding eating plan for those with health problems or for anyone interested in learning more about healthy eating as a lifestyle. "The DASH Diet for Every Day" clearly explains the diet’s eating strategies, lays out a food list, meal plans, and recipes that are easy to follow. As a personal fitness trainer with a certification in nutrition, I’d recommend this book as a perfect guide for anyone seeking to learn best eating practices.

This book was helpful in informing me about what types of food I should and should not keep adding to my diet. The guidelines clearly state how much of different types of food you should consume on a regular basis, and it explains exactly why these are good or bad for you. This book is extremely easy to follow and more helpful than anything else I have tried looking into. Definitely worth a read.

Touted as a simple-to-follow eating plan for those with “common sense,” the Dash Diet is an approach that sidesteps obsessive calorie-counting, expensive diet programs with weekly meetings, and a set of hard and fast rules to obey in favor of simply eating healthy, unprocessed foods in realistic portions and making sure to get the proper nutrients in the right amounts. While the frame of the diet is simple and the book offers plenty of wholesome recipes for the reader to use, these recipes would require a surplus of preparation time which the majority of readers may not have. In addition, this “common sense” approach may not work for those needing more standardized rigid guidelines to differentiate between “right” and “wrong” eating.

Firstly, this book is endorsed by NIH and the USDA unlike other diets. Second, it is packed with delicious, healthy recipes that are incredibly easy to prepare. There is also a complete meal plan that will have you on your way to feeling better and taking care of yourself the way you should. I feel my energy levels growing already and it has only been one week into the program.

Move over fad diets - here's practical eating. Dash diet outlines basic guidelines with tips on eating out and healthy snacks to consider. Budget recipes and health points are all presented in an easy-to-read format. I was given this book in exchange for a fair review.

DASH is at it again, helping to keep meal-planning and healthy eating commonsensical and affordable. This latest DASH installment is a great supplement to previous ones, but can stand alone as a great introduction to the DASH way of eating and living healthy. Here we have a special emphasis on sodium intake, which sufferers of hypertension will appreciate. The ingredients are simple. tasty, and affordable -- the meals look sumptuous -- and its all backed by science-based research. DASH is back!

Recipes to help lower blood pressure and lose weight? Sounds like a good deal. While I am not trying to lose weight or moderate my sodium consumption, I do enjoy trying new recipes and the righteous pumpkin pie, was impressive. Overall, if you wish to restrain your salt intake and lose weight, this book might prove beneficial.

This book did not give me any new information on healthy eating. Main points of the book are: plan your meal ahead, do your shopping ahead, count what you are eating and be patient. The purpose of The Dash Diet is to lower cholesterol, so it’s not your regular diet book, even though it does help you to lose weight. Overall, it’s an OK book.

The DASH diet focuses on reducing sodium intake. This recipe book gives weekly meal plans, with detailed recipes, and all with a 1500mg or lower sodium intake (according to a 2000-calorie per day consumption). All recipes are made up of 1-4 servings, so this book seems to be catered more towards a small family as the audience. Whether or not you have prehypertension, recipes from The DASH Diet for Everyday supply a fair handful of delicious meals and snacks. I was given this recipe book for free, in exchange for a review.

This book is a fairly comprehensive introduction to the DASH Diet. While the DASH Diet is not a new concept it has proven to be effective at lowering blood pressure. One statement in the book sums up the approach though, "If you fail to plan, you plan to fail" and this diet seems to require a lot of planning and prep work. Complete shopping lists are included but felt a bit overwhelming to me. That said, the recipes make this book well worth having and using. ( I received this book free of charge to review)

Excellent book! I recommend this amazing book to anyone who wants to lose weight and improve health. The Dash diet presented is an incredible tool for people with blood pressure and other medical conditions. The Dash diet is an easy to follow diet, it contains savory recipes, and is very flexible and affordable. The four week meal plan is very important and is designed to help you make healthy choices. Great book!

Getting older and more sedentary means nothing good for heart health. This book arrived at a good time in my life. I need the kick in the pants to get started cooking in a more healthy manner. I’m glad to see lots of spicy and Asian recipes. Don’t want to sacrifice flavor for fitness! I was pretty surprised by a lot of the tips – things I didn’t know… and I appreciate the step by step meal plans and shopping lists.

This IMO is a lifestyle book, not just a diet cookbook. Tho it does contain a lot of good dishes like the honey walnut fruit salad, chicken lettuce wraps with pico de gallo and the strawberry banana frozen yogurt it also contains even more information like dozens of studies, foods to avoid, tips like plan ahead before you go shopping, and a 4 week plan to get you started and in the grove of the diet. The thing I like most is, it has a small but plentiful amount of adjustable windows so you can customise your diet. Give it a chance. This book might be what you need or want.

First – the good things:  1. Lots of explanation of kitchen terms (i.e. braising), but would be nice to have pictures to get the point across faster 2. I learned a lot from the tips given at the beginning of recipes 3. Good to have the nutritional info and anticipated prep and cook times 4. You get some good dessert recipes, like cinnamon buns (but it takes more than an hour to make, kind of hard to make fresh at breakfast) The Not-so-good 1. Recipes can take a really long time and you might end up with more clean up time, be prepared for more prep time. The book does warn you though, that in order to change your diet you will have to make changes. I’m not sure how feasible it would be to completely follow their meal plan and still have a normal life, unless you are really good at planning ahead.  2. These recipes are not advertised to be easy, effort is required, and you should anticipate buying a lot of different types of food (shopping lists are provided for each week though!) My one wish: EASIER RECIPES so I can stay healthy and stay on-the-go Recommendation: This is for someone who is not a stranger to cooking and willing to make a considerable time investment towards a better diet.

If all your other diets have not worked, don't worry.  Endorsed by the National Institutes of Health, it is called, "a rewarding lifelong style of eating."  This book takes the reader through a four week meal plan and suggests that you  plan your meals for each and every day including the entire week.  This will keep anyone from reaching for foods that are not part of your plan.  This diet takes the reader from the bad stuff in our lives like sugars and fats and moves us into the lean meats, fruits, vegetables, nuts, grains.  Salt intake in reduce making it terrific for diabetics and heart disease patients.  It has a suggestion of 2000 calories per day that can be customized for each individual.  The book has wonderful recipes for breakfast, lunch, dinner, desserts and even side dishes.  What I like is that it allows for the good oils to be used like grapeseed oil and olive oil.  It also comes with a complete list of no-no foods to avoid. I tried the "Teriyaki Salmon Stir Fry" and it was magnificent!  Then for dessert I made, "chocolate sweet potato pudding."  They were delicious!  Can't wait to try more!

The “dash diet”, is a simple diet plan created specifically for those who either suffer from high blood pressure or are just looking to lose some weight. It’s filled with healthy recipes low in sodium and a week-by-week plan of meals. If you suffer from hypertension or are just looking for a new diet plan, try this one out, it’s simple and can be effective if applied well.

As I'm getting older I have realized without health everything else changes. My husband has to watch salt and I have to watch my weight. This book supports both. It is easy to read and find information you need. I believe this will make my commitment for healthy eating much easier. I am tired of "diet food". This book shows me how to prepare real food in a healthy way and even sets limits I can understand on "forbidden" foods. I will be using this information until it becomes natural to me.

This cookbook has been a great resource for me of late. I’ve been trying the DASH diet for a while, but have had some real difficulty sticking with it. A lot of the core foods in the diet can be rather plain. But this cookbook really helped me bring some great flavor out of otherwise boring ingredients. Try the Crispy Thanksgiving Turkey Fillets. There are fantastic!

DASH is a healthy eating lifestyle, not a fly-by-night crash diet.  DASH uses lots of spices, and you make many of your own condiments, sauces, and dressings. You aren’t forced to deprive yourself of foods you really like (although there’s an extensive list of foods to avoid).  Added bonuses: many easy and tasty recipes, daily and weekly tips, ways to plan ahead, and a list of reputable references.  There’s something here for everyone.

In this book, you'll learn science, a plan, and recipes for the DASH diet. DASH was designed to combat high blood pressure but it also helps people with diabetes, osteoporosis, kidney disease, risk of heart disease, or overweight. Basically, "just eat the foods that are good for you." Over 60 recipes aim to eliminate saturated fat, cholesterol, and refined sugar through more meats, fish, poultry, low-fat dairy, veggies, and whole grains. Part 2 gives you a plan and time-saving techniques. Part 1 explains the targeted calorie intake (around 2,000 grams) and includes lots of clear charts and workable lists (ex, foods to avoid). In total, it's a comprehensive guide and program that doesn't require a dramatic change in diet to increase your health!
