This book is actually a really clever mix of fantasy/humor/romance/action that deserves not only a first read, but a second and maybe even a third. It's shelved in fantasy because that's where stories containing elves and different worlds belong, but it's more than just another fantasy novel. My favorite aspect is the characters, which are well-developed (and really funny... unless they're evil). And there is something to appeal to anyone: a quest, sword fights, elven politics, a really hot guy (No, I'm not going to tell you if he is the aforementioned evil bad guy.), kidnappings, courtly intrigue, etc. And/But it's unpredictable; for the most part things never quite turned out how I thought it might.
Overall, it's just a very entertaining book.

I have just completed reading this book and I cannot understand how it has not received more attention. I agree with the other reviewers that this story should be made into a movie. As you read Dawn, it is almost like you are there experiencing everything with the characters. It is so easy to see this story as a movie. It is hard to know why that has not already happened. This story quickly captures the reader's attention and never lets it go. If you have a sense of history, if you like romance, if you like mystery, if you like modern relationships, if you appreciate some 'quirkyness,' you will like Dawn. I do recommend Dawn. It is a somewhat 'off-center' novel but I understand that all of Byron Edwards' novels are that way. I have now ordered his current book, Lips. Was this review helpful? This book surprised me. First, it surprised me that I was really into it before I realized it. This is a story that I think any female would enjoy. The romance in this story is subtle but strong. I absolutely adored the wedding. It made me cry. This book also surprised me because I have not heard anything about it. It has not been on Oprah or the talk shows. I have heard nothing about it being made into a movie. It definitely should be! It seems to be making the rounds by word-of-mouth only. This is not a bad thing but it surprises me that this book could be kept so low key for so long. Anyway, if you like romance and a somewhat unusual story (it takes place in the future), you will like this book. I love it! I have recommended it to several of my friends. Was this review helpful? The concept for this book is totally different. It is almost a historical novel that takes place in the future. But what amazes me is that, as I read this book, I could see it in my mind. My friends and I do not understand why this novel has not received more national attention. It is a wonderful story and it is so easy to see it develop as you read it. This book has got to be made into a mini-series for televison or a regular movie in theatres. I found the determination of love to be inspiring. This one is a 'keeper.' I will enjoy reading it again in about a year. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.

I am interested in the old south, and the Lost Gold of the confederacy really got my attention. There were stories of the lost Gold, and this is a great theory as to the disappearance of the Gold. Also, the romantic and furturistic aspetic add so much to the book . I have recommemded the book DAWN to many of my friends. I enjoyed every minute of DAWN by Byron Edwards. Was this review helpful? I have read Dawn and I am very excited about this author. Dawn keeps your interest, and has all the things I look for. It has romance, mystery, secrets and is set in the future, but also has a look at the past.I recommend this book highly. It would make a great mini series for TV or even a movie. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.
