Author SAMANTHA GARMAN blames Julie Garwood's "Ransom" for seducing her into the world of historical romance. While interning for a large fashion company, Samantha decided to write her very first historical romance. After two books (and a lot of tulle), she switched genres and now writes contemporary romance. Who knows? She might just switch genres again... Samantha makes her home in Brooklyn, NY. She spends a lot of her time drinking tea, ordering Thai food, and daydreaming. Works include: The Defiant Lady (historical romance) Secrets of a Heart (historical romance) Charleston Heat (contemporary romance) Dandelion Dreams (contemporary romance)

The title is wrong. But the story flowed well and moved so good not a lot of head chatter and you get every ones story it goes into what other people think. I don't give 5 starts often. But the story line was good it was an easy read and it was edited! So many e-books are badly edited. The story took many turns. I enjoyed it.

The defiance in this case lasted make a few pages in the beginning, so the title is moot! imagine the cultural shock of moving from one country to another, add to that the fact that the socio-economic change in ones life. This book makes a few references to that and then its as if they had lived the life of luxury for ever. There's nothing period specific in this book. The little bits of intrigue or even sex in this book seems to be forced. This author should read a few historical romance books before attempting another blunder that's this book! I'm not a friend or family so I'm not obligated to give a five star review. I would not waste my time reading anything this author writes, even if it were free.

A Defiant Lady is a well-written historical romance and a good read. The characters are believable and well rounded. The villains are evil and nasty. The descriptions of the characters and surroundings are well done and makes you feel as though you were there attending the parties with the characters. The sex scenes were few, well placed and tastefully done. Because I really enjoyed this book I have to give it a five star rating
