Overview

The Description of a New World, Called The Blazing-World, better known as The Blazing World, is a 1666 work of prose fiction by English writer Margaret Cavendish, the Duchess of Newcastle.

It has been described as an early forerunner of Science Fiction. As its full title suggests, Blazing World is a fanciful depiction of a satirical, utopian kingdom in another world (with different stars in the sky) that can be reached via the North Pole. It is "the only known work of utopian fiction by a woman in the 17th century, as well as one of the earliest examples of what we now call 'science fiction' — although it is also a romance, an adventure story, and even autobiography."

A young woman enters this other world, becomes the empress of a society composed of various species of talking animals, and organizes an invasion back into her world complete with submarines towed by the "fish men" and the dropping of "fire stones" by the "bird men" to confound the enemies of her homeland, the Kingdom of Esfi.

Margaret Cavendish, Duchess of Newcastle-upon-Tyne (1623–1673) was an English aristocrat, a prolific writer, and a scientist. Born Margaret Lucas, she was the youngest sister of prominent royalists Sir John Lucas and Sir Charles Lucas. She became an attendant of Queen Henrietta Maria and travelled with her into exile in France, living for a time at the court of the young King Louis XIV. She became the second wife of William Cavendish, 1st Duke of Newcastle-upon-Tyne in 1645, when he was a marquess.

    Darkstar-- Apprentice/Deputy Ceremony & Announcements

Darkstar padded to the HighRock, his tail twitching in a nervous excitement. With a single bound, he hopped onto the rock and called everyone to him before beginning, "Hm. Been a long time since we made any announcements in Blazeclan! Hopefully, we can change that, and so to start off, we have six of Cloversun's kits that have reached six moons, and it has come time for them to be apprenticed. Shadowkit, Snowkit, Brackenkit, Stormkit, Leafkit, and Pantherkit, please step forward," As they did so, he continued, "Since our clan has been slowly crumbling, I am glad to bring new apprentices into light. Hopefully, it will change things here. To start off, Shadowkit, you're mentor will be Russetstreak. Snowkit, yours shall be FirePelt. Brackenkit, your mentor will be Furyclaw. Have fun. Stormkit, you will be trained by Rushriver. Good luck," He grinned before continuing, "Leafkit, Whitestorm is now your mentor," The fluffy white cat stepped forward, touching noses with her apprentice as Darkstar went on, "Last by not least, Pantherkit. I will be your mentor," He took a break to touch noses with the cat. Stepping back up, he continued, "Blazeclan, welcome Shadowpaw, Snowpaw, Brackenpaw, Stormpaw, Leafpaw, and Pantherpaw, the newest apprentices of our clan!" He cheered for them for a minute, before pressing matters onward, "As many of you may or may not know, our previous deputy, Chipfoot, has stopped visiting. It has come to my attention that if we want a better Blazeclan, we will need a new deputy. That is why I'm appointing FirePelt as deputy. A while ago, there was a fire in camp. FirePelt stayed behind, helping all the cats get out. That's when I first noticed the deputy-material in him. After the fire, he worked endlessly to repair camp, and that was the second time I noticed the material. Therefore, he has been my choice as our new deputy," He dipped his head at the tom, "Serve our clan well," Taking another deep breath, he continued talking, "Alright, now I have some things I want to talk about. For those that don't know, here is a breif history of Blazeclan: Founded in December of 2011 by Echostar, our clan quickly rose to the top. For almost two years, it was right alongside Horseclan with it's activeness. However, after the multiple lags, our member dropped like flies, and now we are left with the poor excuse of clan. So, we're going to do something about it. From now on, our CAMP will be located at 'three musketeers' all results. This place is strictly for realistic RolePlay. I know that we all like to chat and goof off with each other, like throwing exploding acorns and such, so our current place at 'arson' is for that. As for the nicknames, leave them at Arson as well. If any of you know, we receive hate for that, so I don't want to see that at Three Musketeers. And for advertising? Please, please advertise daily for TM if you can, just wait till I say so. I figured if we could have a plot for our RolePlay, we'd have a lot more members. So for the next few days, we can all brainstorm a list of ideas, like a clan suffering a drought, or wolves that stalk the forest or something," He sighed, "I want my Blazeclan back!" With that, he leaped off the HighRock and padded away. <p> (( Guys. I'm dead serious about this. Not one part of me was being sarcastic. I used all my characters for this, and it took me a while. I really, really want to see a change here. I miss how it used to be. ))
