Virginia Jordan Blanchard (Ginny) is finally free of her tempera

Virginia Jordan Blanchard (Ginny) is finally free of her temperamental, abusive husband who had the good grace to die a few months before. Ginny is now in control of the family finances and can raise her son Jack the way she sees fit. Or so she thought. Turns out her spiteful husband had one last trick up his sleeve - an executor and guardian to manage the money placed into trust for Jack and oversee his upbringing. Simon Webber, successful shipping merchant and cousin to Ginny's late husband, wants to come to the estate, check on the widow and her son, make sure the finances are in order, and then get back to his ship as soon as possible. But when he arrives, he is greeted by an enraged Ginny - a widow very much NOT in mourning - and shown to a leaky cottage with holes deliberately knocked into the walls. He is intrigued and decides to stay and engage this beautiful woman in a battle of wills.

From the instant Ginny and Simon met, I knew this was going to be a fantastic read. Ginny is a real spitfire! She does not want Simon's influence in her household and has no problem making that fact painfully obvious to him through her icy demeanor and by placing him in a purposefully damaged cottage in hopes that he will run away to his ship. She openly bucks the expectations of widowhood and mourning by refusing to dress in black and continuing to hold full formal dinners at the estate. And despite everything her husband put her through (or perhaps because of it), she is strong-willed with a razor sharp tongue without coming across as shrewish.

Simon is a perfect match for Ginny. He has an iron will of his own that revels in matching wits with Ginny and a genuine interest in seeing her and her son cared for. Simon is adventurous and a hard worker. Family and duty are very important to him and this trait informs many of the decisions he makes throughout the book. Simon recognizes the poisonous influence of the Blanchard family and strives to keep them at bay while he sorts out his late cousin's estate. Conversely, he also recognizes Ginny's need to reconcile with her Jordan family, despite her protests to the contrary.

The desire between Simon and Ginny crackled right from their very first meeting. Both have very good reasons not to give into their desire for one another and it was entertaining to watch them battle against that urge. I also liked how Ginny was the one to initiate most of their kisses; she's a woman who knows what she wants and how to ask for it!

The ending felt a little rushed, but otherwise this was a thoroughly enjoyable read! Loved it!! By far my favorite book in this series!
