Gr 7 Up—Several supernatural beings with otherworldly powers who represent the forces of good and evil find themselves in modern-day Tokyo, where suddenly their powers no longer work. The story mixes action with comedy, as the Devil King navigates our ordinary world, even taking a part-time job at a fast food restaurant called MgRonald to make ends meet. But the longer he works there, the more his focus shifts from conquering the world to making his way up the management chain at his restaurant. And then the Devil King's archenemy Emilia Justina the Hero shows up to try to finish what she started. This "light novel" with manga-style illustrations is very densely written, and is packed with so much exposition that in many ways it does not feel like the beginning of a series at all. This work has been adapted into an anime, which aired in 2014, so it would be most appreciated and understood by readers who saw it and are looking for more information about the story and the characters. VERDICT For fans of the The Devil Is a Part-Timer anime.—Andrea Lipinski, New York Public Library

Yes, I most certainly would like fries with my hellfire. This book was phenomenally made, the story was original, the setting was not really new, but with the background more than making up for that by placing an unusual set of characters into a common setting more than makes up for it, the characters are quite fleshed out, from the cool and cynical Devil King who is suprisingly ingenius but boastful, to the short tempered overzealous Emilia Justina, to the butt kissing but intelligent and clever Alciel. The plot is masterfully created, and the ending was quite fun,  and just as I was getting tired of the book, it ended, which meant the length was perfect too, all in all, if your're looking for something different, this book is perfect.
