Overview

After the death of his father, Eugene moves to the country with his elderly mother to manage the family estate. Life runs smoothly and perfectly for the young man, who has health, beauty and social status, until he meets Stepanida, a cheerful, bookish countrywoman with bright, magnetic eyes. Just the thought of that woman wears down his soul, desire and temptation cloud his mind. He received nominations for the Nobel Prize in Literature every year from 1902 to 1906 and for the Nobel Peace Prize in 1901, 1902, and 1909.
