Children's LiteratureThis useful resource in an interesting guide to over 50 characters who are beloved by readers. These compelling characters have entertained and delighted over the years demonstrating critical values through their adventures. Some of these characters include Mary Poppins, Miss Rumphius, Stanley Yelnats, Christopher Robin and Charlotte. Many of the characters are from award-winning books. The text is used as a dictionary with entries listed in alphabetical order by book titles. Following the book title the entries include the author, publication date, kind of literature and awards or prizes. There is also a brief description of the character and their importance to the story. Also included are special features, presented in colored boxes, titled, "Author's Anecdote," "From the Critics" and "Other Works." Beautiful color illustrations from many of the books appear on the pages. Front matter includes a list of major characters, information on how to use the book and a note to the educator. End notes include a selected bibliography and complete index.
