Editorial Reviews

Be Healthy and Well
There are no superfluous words here, just the facts...This book is not for those who want dangerous shortcuts and lazy, pill-popping tricks. Yet for those who want to lose weight naturally, safely, healthfully and permanently (no matter how gradually) this is simply THE book.—Be Healthy and Well
Health Hound
It is rare that I review a book or anything fitness or diet related that is 'all good' but I really can't find a single issue with anything Dr. Spencer has said.—Health Hound
Library Journal
"Think of excess fat as a collection of bad habits." Biology consultant Spencer says that people are inundated with opportunities to consume empty calories that provide no nutrition and leave them hungrier than when they began. The book is new but the technique is tried and tested. Toss out the quickie convenience foods, eliminate snacks, stick to unprocessed whole foods, and drink water. Find an exercise you enjoy and do it often. VERDICT Well-presented and easy to understand, this one is highly recommended.

Being married to an amateur health guru who writes her own health blog, I have read countless articles, books, magazines and watched innumerable documentaries on the topic of health. In that span of time, I have learned about diets (and why they don't work), sleep, exercise and their effects on overall health. But it was not until I read this book that I found so many high-level concepts reduced to a simple language with specific tactics that make taking up a healthy lifestyle so practical, without being gimmicky in the least. The beauty of this piece is that it deals with weight from every angle - cognitive, emotional and physical. So many works on the market deal with just one at a time, but Dr. Spencer's work provides a blueprint with tactics to manage all three at once to make simple yet effective and lasting change in the reader's life. It also comes in a book that can be read in an afternoon and the reader can start down their new path today. The concepts Spencer addresses in the book need not only apply to those looking to manage their weight - they provide a foundation for anyone wanting to live a healthy lifestyle. I would recommend this book to anyone who has ever tried a diet and not gotten the results they were looking for, as well as anyone who is serious about leading a healthy life

I have never read a book that is so light, yet comprehensive in the same breath. Dr. Spencer lays out a road map for health practices that is not only attainable but spans a breadth of health practices such as diet, exercise and sleep that form a complete guide to true health and well-being. His clean writing style parallels his approach to healthy living and his message translates clearly to readers from all walks of life in that his direction can be practical for anyone who reads the book. This is the kind of book that you will want to send a copy to everyone you care about. Wonderful job.

Mr. Spencer teaches you how to eat the right foods and be healthier. I thought I was eating pretty healthy and after reading the book found out I can do better. There are some good recipes in the back of the book. I used his sleep meditation trick for when I wake up during the night and can't fall back to sleep because I think of too much stuff. The trick worked and I fall back to sleep and ended up getting a good nights sleep. He teaches you about the right foods to eat, exercise and sleep and about drinking enough water. This book is well worth the money to a healthier you.

For those who want to get more insight into why, where, when we tend to overeat and how to control bad habits, this is a good starting point! It is written with key phrase-points to remember, a simple process that can work, if you apply yourself! There are some good points and explanations, all written without the huge fanfare of other books with clear thoughts, clear explanations! A good book to fall back on for many! A good read for both the 'seasoned weight warrior' and those new to the proverbially 'spare tire/muffin top' thing! This copy was provided by NetGalley and Fine Life Books in exchange for an honest review.

Simple and “spot-on”, this book hits all of the eating challenges that plague todays Americans and offers simple affordable solutions. I highly recommend this self help/non fiction book to anyone that truly is tired of the next new diet, and wants to follow a path to a healthier life that just happens to offer an easy way to become naturally thin as a bonus. Good advice for all ages.
