Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
This is a great story for children who love dinosaurs and dream of having one of their own someday. In this space age city, Eurekaville, it is possible to own a dinosaur. Skip decides he wants a pet dinosaur so he and his friend Violet head off to the local dinosaur store. Skip and Violet soon find that dinosaurs do not make the best pets. The Apatosaurus is too big for the house, the Apatosaurus eats too much, the Stegosaurus is too spiky to play with, and the Tyrannosaurus thinks Skip and Violet are snacks. In the end, Skip buys a bird, which is a cousin to the dinosaurs. The vibrant colors and illustrations bring the dinosaurs alive without being scary. The descriptions of the dinosaurs are educational and entertaining. 2001, Penguin Putnam Books for Young Readers,
