CommentaryThe Disney Version is a model of good judgment, exemplary in balance and impeccable in tone.

The biography has a interesting order to the way that the story of the magical man, that created so much, is portrayed. The book tells of Disneyland, Mickey Mouse, and Walt Disney and his life and struggles. The major message of the book for me was that in Walt¿s life he never gave up on trying to do what he wanted to do. For example when he was a child he wanted to be an artist he took art classes and had an apprenticeship with a local cartoonist I really enjoyed the practical application of Walt Disney¿s life that Richard Schickel put into his book. The way that quotes were used to give a different view than that of what the public believed at the time was really different and showed Walt Disney for the person that he believed that he was. I disliked that the author put his own views in to the work and tainted the mythical man behind the mouse. He believed that Walt had a ward childhood but it was really a norm for the time period. If someone is interested in Walt Disney as a person, that lived during the late 1800 to the mid 1900 than I would recommend this book to them. It was very informative about his as well as about the corporation until 1966.I would not recommend this book to someone that wanted to learn about the Walt Disney studio because the book only covers part of it.Was this review helpful?
