Meet the Author

Dr. Travis Stork is an Emmy®-nominated co-host of the award-winning talk show “The Doctors” and a practicing board-certified emergency medicine physician. He graduated magna cum laude from Duke University and earned his M.D. with honors from the University of Virginia, where he was elected into the prestigious honor society of Alpha Omega Alpha for outstanding academic achievement.

Born and raised in the Midwest, Dr. Stork is a fervent believer in helping patients feel empowered when it comes to their health. Dr. Stork practices what he preaches and likes to teach by example, biking to work every day, rain or shine. While he doesn’t expect individuals to give up their cars, he is passionate about enlightening individuals on simple ways to attain and maintain good health based on their own life and circumstances. He believes that oftentimes, when people come to the E.R., it’s already too late. That’s why he takes such pride in teaching people how to avoid preventable illness before it happens. Most people don’t realize that they make over 200 health-related decisions every day that dictate how well and how long they live. Dr. Stork believes health is not about the gym or a deprivation diet; health is achieved by focusing on those seemingly inconsequential 200-plus decisions people make throughout the day.

I am so frustrated by this book. I saw the Doctors show when they first mentioned this book and was excited to get it but every store that I went to it was sold out. I was told that they can order it for me. Great. But, then, they said that it was on back on order. Why? How? Who? I have been waiting almost two weeks and I still haven’t gotten it. My sister felt my frustration and loaned me a few books that she had just ordered to tide me over. What I have come to realize is that I am so tired of skinny people telling me how they stays so skinny or books written by men telling real women how to lose weight. At least, with the Doctors book, he’s a real doctor. That’s why I want it. The only book that I do like that she gave me and that I would suggest that people buy is the Hungry Chick Diet Solution. The author is a real woman that understands the frustrations of losing weight and offers real long term help. (My sister might not get this book back.) Right now, I am just hoping that the Doctor Diet is worth such a long wait.

Really good content and advice with recipes. The web based downloads just fine. For the person who said the BMI chart doesn't download appropriately, there is no age 38. It's by height and weight and the top #'s are what your BMI is, not age. You can also change the font size settings so that it won't cut off sentences, etc.

    Dissapointed

I bought this book thinking it would give m lots of pointers in how to diet. Unfortunately, it was not all I expected, and it ended up at the bottom of my shelf. On the upside it was an OKAY book.

Fun and easy to read and follow!

I enjoyed this book, Dr Travis writes just likes he talks, easy and friendly! I bought my daughter and son in law copies because they are changing their habits and trying to eat healthy. My son in law said he did even pick up a few new ideas of good things to eat. It is a good common sense approach to loosing weight, rather than so many fad diets I've tried. I'm glad I bought it!

    more from this reviewer

    No new information here.

I didn't find anything new in this book. The first two whole chapters simply told about why he wrote the book. It was like one big infomercial for the book. When it got to the meat of the book, I found it to be just a renaming of already accepted principles. I found no new groundbreaking information. Don't bother reading it.

To all the people upset about the BMI page.. BMI is Height & Weight = Body Mass Index..
It has nothing to do with age.. Obesity is a BMI of 30 or greater.. The page is fine, you don't need to go more than 30 and the next page tells you what group you fall in.. Great Book!!

I started reading this the other day and I am impressed with the approach that Dr. Travis Stork takes. I am going to try some of his recipes and I am sure I will like them. I saw the Dr.'s show on this and I love t he idea of not counting calories! Sounds like "my kind" of diet.

    Good book

Although the gist of what he says has been said before, most people need to hear - and think about - something a number of times before taking it in. I really liked the section called Life-Saving Food Prescriptions - especially the points about mindful eating, reading labels, and breaking your sugar addiction.

    Great Advice

I found the book is very interesting. The book tells you the same things other books tell you to avoid but it tells you why to avoid them. I like that the choice is up to you. When reading the book you get the feeling it is written by someone that cares. I have followed the advice and have loss 6 pounds already. I really think i will be able to stay with it this time (I hope so i have a extreme amount of weight to lose)

    worth the read

Good book, some information that most chronic dieters already know, however the recipes and food ideas alone are worth the read. alot of good, new ideas and options for healthy eating.

    JUNK!

If you want to read a "common sense" diet book then this is for you. Absolutely a waste of money and time reading it.

    What a mess.

Where do I start. The book itself may not be that bad, but the Nook Book is terrible. The page numbers that help your find the recipes are not correct so you have to go searching for the recipes everyday. Flipping back and forth back and forth several times a day just to find the recipes and know when to eat them. Then to top it off some of the recipes do not have all the complete information so you don't know if your need 1 cup of vinegar or 1 tablespoon. An absolute mess. Spend the extra money and buy the real book. Save yourself the stress. I will not be using this Nook. Waste of money.

Good information. The daily diet charts are extremly hard in the nook. This is one book I would rather have in hardback book. Easier to refer back to.

I wish there was a zero star option.

I'm a student. This is completely unrealistic for me. I don't have the option of cooking whatever the heck I want for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I thought that this would be flexible, but it is not flexible enough for people who go to school. Its also about a lot of complicated foods. And I really don't know of anyone who has yhe time for this. I am really mad I spent money on this thing. Really, really not worth it. I was really hoping it would be great, too. Seriously upset. >:(

    New Buyer Beware

Had never purchased Nook Books before. If you are a 1st time buyer, note that you will NOT be able to print certain parts of some ebooks. Also be aware you have only 7 days to review before requesting a credit. I was hoping to print recipes and meal plans from the Doctors Diet Book. Barnes and Noble DENIED my credit request after 21 days. Ignorance is not an excuse
