After working for years to expose trainers' cruelty to animals in the production of movies, I applaud a book that encourages the compassion and nonviolence that dogs so richly deserve.
This is an important book. Paul Owens offers a powerful voice of nonviolence and a truly enlightening approach to raising and training your dog. I wholeheartedly recommend his message of compassion and joy.
This wonderful book will help break the cycle of animal suffering caused by wrong-mindedness and harmful training methods. [The nonviolent process] helps us develop our empathy and understanding, making us more humane-and more human-and thus more deserving of the company of dogs whose virtues we so often fail to live up to.

My neighbor loaned me his copy when I rescued a mix breed from the SPCA. I found the book to be very helpful, I like Mr. Owens approach, it is very loving and compassionate, my dog responded well and we are now doing great! Thank you so much for your help.

Paul's books provide easy to follow and understand knowledge of how to create a successful and healthy relationship with your dog. No force, no spanking, no yanking needed.

Poorly written and very poorly presented material. If you want a feel good read it is ok. If you need expert advice this book is a not ok. This book has an odd and distracting theme about how to approach life in general.

This book has an odd new age proselitizing feel that overwhelms the minimal amount of decent information presented. The feel good spin of this book is appealing but distracting. There are just to many other good books to waste time on this one.

Panders to the adult reader, not very useful, makes you feel bad if you don't home-cook every meal for your dog. Not worth the money!!!

What a good insightful book - not only about how to treat and train your dog, it's a way to look at all relationships with compassion and tolerance. Recommended for anyone who has or wants to have a loving relationship with man's best friend.

I found this book very helpful in understanding and training my first dog (Labrador). The non violent approach illustrated really does work. Everything I read regarding a dog's stages of growth were absolutely true. This is an excellent book especially for those first time dog owners, there is everything from feeding to fun games to do together..Great Book !

This book is fantastic! It tells all the things we as human caretakers need to know about training our dogs without the unkind methods used by some trainers. Paul gives lots of great information, and lets you know how to read your dog, to give you the best possible relationship you can have. All you have to do is follow his instructions to see immediate results! And it is FUN!!!

What a delight Paul's book was to read. I couldn't put it down when I first read it, and now I use it like a text book. I love his methods. It's a practical way of life not just for dogs but for all of us. There's a metaphysical, spiritual tone to the methods that hit home. Mabel, my rescue, is responding to all that we are learning together. Thank you, Paul, for sharing your knowledge and experience with us.

The Dog Whisperer is a step by step Bible for training a dog old or young. I have implemented his traning techniques with all three of my dogs who are of various ages, who says old dogs can't learn new tricks.
