Editorial Reviews

ESPN.com
By now you know that (Mike) Dolce has helped fighters like Thiago Alves make weight, but the thing that’s been under-stressed is that Dolce is a lifestyle changer. Bad habits, like buying out of season fruits, eating too much processed foods, and continuing this on-going charade with Teflon, are some automatic no-no’s. Now Dolce’s got a book out that will help those of you who wonder at his secrets, and it’s full of recipes and workout tips to get you into a leaner, healthier figure. The personal favorite: Bapple juice (apple, beets and chia seeds).

MMA Diet Reviews
I have just received my own copy of The Dolce Diet: Living Lean, which I purchased from Barnes and Noble and have already made a few of the recipes, which are pretty darn good. My wife is always suspicious when I say, "Come over here and taste this." But she was shocked at the flavor and at my ability to follow a recipe, which Dolce does a great job keeping simple.

I haven't tried any of the workouts yet but there are lots to choose from. Treadmill work for fat loss, health or fighter training camps. Strength training for the serious athlete or 'Tank Top' workouts for those of us who just want to look fit and feel healthy.

There is even a complete exercise database with photos and step-by-step instructions, which I appreciate because there are some exciting exercises in here that I have never seen before but look great.

One last thing, I was pleasantly shocked at how enjoyable the story was to read. Mike does a spectacular job creating an emotional backdrop to the science behind his program. We get glimpses into his own childhood while dealing with a sick parent, the drive needed to become successful in any endeavor, behind-the-scene looks into what professional fighters struggle with, just like the rest of us and so much more.

Home Talkers
We kept hearing about The Dolce Diet: Living Lean. It is blowing up on Twitter and has amazing reviews all over the internet. We figured, what the heck, let's give it a shot. What do we have to lose (other than the $39.99 price tag)? Well, I'll tell you, just for the 3 recipes I've tried so far and the helpful grocery list, it was worth it already. Today for lunch we had a fantastic salad.

It's so delicious and so easy to make. Just throw together some baby spinach (and kale if you have any - I didn't), cut up strawberries, cucumbers, onion (preferably red, but I used yellow and it was still awesome), chickpeas (aka garbanzo beans), chopped walnuts, tomatoes (optional), feta cheese and drizzle with olive oil and vinegar. Perfection!

    GREAT for "former" fat guys!

Im no athlete, never was and not looking to be. But, I am a sports fan and I know how serious you have to be in order to compete as a professional athlete. This is where Mike Dolce comes in. Every time I turn on the tv, I see him standing next to one of the UFC fighters and they are all praising how amazing his diet is. At first I didn't pay it much attention but the next year, there he was, and the next year he's still there, and then i began to take notice. If all the world's top athletes keep hiring Dolce to get them in shape for multi-million dollar sporting events, then this guy sure as heck must know what he is doing. So I bought his book and was shocked. It all looked and sounded too easy. There's no way a fat guy like me could eat exactly like Rampage (one of Dolce's athletes) and get in shape? Surely, he was gonna keep all his secrets for his rich athletes and not give them away for all the world to see, but I was wrong. I tried his "Dolce Diet" and was shocked again! This food tastes awesome! Pancakes, pasta and burgers ON A DIET??? There's no way I was gonna lose weight on this...but I did! I lost 11 pounds the first week and 27 pounds the first month. I felt awesome! I even felt so good I started playing basketball with some of my buddies at the park for the first time since I was a kid. Im still not very good at sports but man it felt good to run around and play and I tell you what, they got tired before I did!!! Anyway, I don't know how exactly it works but it does and it tastes great and it was cheap to follow. Thats another thing, I was spending a bunch of money eating out every week and now I dont even wanna think about doing that. It makes me feel sick now anytime I eat outside of my Dolce Diet plan. I dont know if this helps you but this book is simple and this guy knows his stuff. I'm not fat anymore!

    Family, Food and Fun

In just over a week, my whole family is living the Dolce Diet lifestyle and loving every single meal. My kids are even helping me select fruits and vegetables at the store. "Is this one on the Dolce diet?" my son asked me today while holding a tomato. Priceless! This book taught me how to feed my family in a manner that is healthy, tasty and inexpensive.

The Dolce Diet changed my life!

The "Freshman 15" hit me pretty hard during college. I was 205 lbs and I had never felt worse in my life. After following the wise words of Mr. Dolce, I was able to lose over 45 lbs and change my life. Not only did I simply lose weight, but my body got ripped in the process! If you're any age and looking to lose the same amount or more and you haven't tried this book, then you haven't found the answer to your problems. Nice job Mike, keep fightin' the good fight!

    Highly Recommended !!!

I got Mike's first manual, 3 weeks to shredded. I followed the simple plan (with a shopping list) and I lost 20 lbs in three weeks. While doing it, I joined Mike's web site. When I had a problem during those three weeks, Mike actually read my blog and answered me. I found I wanted to know more about this person who actually cares about people. About strangers living longer and healthier lives. When I found out about Mikes new book, I had to read it. I loved learning about Mike's life as he evolved into the person he is now. Hard to believe he had a weight issue. Then in Mike fashion, he explains how to live healthier, how to eat healthier and how to shop healthier. He even tells you what to look for on labels. I love the shopping list of must haves for your kitchen as well as the way he makes cooking for company (with recipes that can be tweaked for vegan, vegetarian, someone in training, etc.) easy and fun AND so human. Hey, no one is perfect...although this book excites, motivates and sure makes me want to try harder.. LOVED IT! Shelly Binx (age 54)

Highly Recommended! Living Lean opens the door to easy, healthy living!

The Dolce Diet: Living Lean gives outsiders and INSIDE LOOK into the methods the top coach in MMA uses with his athletes. The best part about it is all of the methods are super easy. ANYONE can do it! People think it's so expensive to eat healthy or they have to buy into those programs like Weight Watchers or Jenny Craig to get a handle on healthy living, but Mike Dolce puts it all right here in a book that is really easy to understand and implement. Kudos to Mike for thinking about all us regular folks out there who want to feel like champions! (Especially, for me being a mom of three - I need to feel great all the time or chaos ensues!) Living Lean is the platform to living the healthy life you've always wanted. On a side note, I especially enjoyed reading about his childhood and how he became so interested in weight management. It's no wonder he evolved into the high-demand sports professional he is today. This guy's the real deal! Thank you, Mike! Abby G.

    Groundbreaking!

I have never read such a well told story in the Diet & Exercise niche. Mr. Dolce does an amazing job bringing the reader into his world, while offering us the essential tools necessary to stand on our own. This book contains meal plans, grocery lists, recipes, complete workout plans for muscle gain, fat loss, strength for athletes and general fitness for the rest of us. It does not matter if you are a middle-aged mother of four or a world-class athlete, this is the only book you will need!

    Terrific!

First, I want to say that this book is terrific! I had high expectations and they were all exceeded. With that said, the author does a tremendous job pulling the reader into the story by providing a compelling character study that is just as riveting as it is educational. Next, the recipes provided are delicious and very unique. Fajitas, stir frys, pancakes, burgers and the list goes on and on. I, for one, was ecstatic to see how well I can eat while being on a 'diet.' Moving on, there is a complete meal plan that we are taught to cater to our own personal goals and background, whether we are athletes, mothers, vegans or living a gluten-free lifestyle. This I found genius. As if this wasn't enough, there is a complete exercise section with multiple workout programs like the Tank Top Workout for ladies to the Power Deadlift Workout for men to the Fighter's Treadmill Workout for professional athletes and many other options. The book concludes with a thorough Exercise Section in which the author details exact exercise technique in a step by step process and includes photos with each description. I counted over 60 photos in this section and found them very helpful, as the exercises are also unique to the author's work with professional athletes but I am now performing many of them in my own living room. In summary, this book is terrific and I am proudly recommending it to everyone who asks me about losing weight.

    MUST READ for women too!!!

I am a girl on a limited budget as a college student and I'm also a VEGAN. I absolutely love what Mike has done in putting his principles together unlike any diet book i have ever read. You can tell he really loves helping people and WOW this guy knows what he is talking about!!! These vegan meals are absolutely delicious and his recipe options for pro-athletes, gluten-free or health & wellness oriented individuals look amazing also. My boyfriend loves it too and the treadmill workouts in the book have absolutely changed my body (and my butt)! Two big thumbs up!

    more from this reviewer

Finally, a health author who keeps it simple!!

Cheers to Mike Dolce and Living Lean! If you know anything about Mike's career thus far, you know he's most recognized for corralling the weight issues of the most famous athletes in MMA. I had purchased his manual "3 Weeks to Shredded" and personally lost 40 lbs. in three weeks. Mike's methods work. That said, I was excited when I found out he was coming out with Living Lean. Basically, this book starts out with a brief history of how Mike earned his experience through real life events. He writes about his firsthand experience being an athlete with weight issues his whole life. The next part is about motivation and making the right choices that fuel a healthy lifestyle, and it really is motivating. Then he gets into an awesome recipe section, a full strength training and cardio workout section and finally an exercise section that shows you exactly how to do each exercise (with photos!) that he uses in all of his workouts. I have one word for Mike, BOOM! Great job, buddy. This is exactly the long-term, useful info I was looking for. Here's to living to 120 years old! Cheers!

    motivating and empowering

talk about a surprise. i read this book in just over a day. half way through I felt a huge surge of motivation that keeps growing. i really liked the way the book starts with a story that was used to teach valuable lessons about life, food and exercise instead of the normal boring diet book way of offering definitions and calorie content that i never use or remember. a few weeks after reading The Dolce Diet I am amazed at how well i have retained the lessons taught and now feel empowered to live the life I really want. i guess that's what they mean by Living Lean!
