Ten Percent
Having specialized in Psychiatry as a doctor, I was unbelievably drawn to the plot of this book. Too many times the themes of this genre of books leaves me bored with the predictability of he plot and often the ending. Holt kept me gripped to the very last word. Her sense of humor throughout the book made me giggle outwardly at times, some of those not appropriate for the surroundings I was in hehe. My recommendation gives this book 10 stars out of 5. Do yourself a favor and indulge in this book

It took me a couple of chapters to get into this book but once I did I couldn't put it down. The characters were all well thought out and add a lot of depth to the novel.

At certain parts of this novel I thought I knew what was happening but then I turned the page and another twist was added to the plot. I felt like I was right there watching the story unfold through the eyes of the characters.

Overall a good read and I highly recommend it

This is a book I wish I had written. It's a first novel for Alison Holt, a young but retired Tucson PD detective, and you would be doing yourself a favor if you read it. Let this novel addict you to Alison's writing. It's all right because she has at least three more novels coming, and each is as well written a tale as the others. You're gonna spend that four bucks on something; spend it on a few hours of escape into Alison's world. You will find the trip well worth it.
Andrea Danforth
I highly recommend this book. It's fast moving and is a very interesting read. Hard to put down once you start. I'd give it a ten but the stars only go up to five.

Meet the Author

Alison Holt writes what she knows. Her stories reflect the twenty years she spent as an officer moving through the ranks of the Tucson Police Department. During her career, she worked patrol to investigations, commanded undercover units and riot control squads and trained as a hostage negotiator. Always the one to rock the boat, she took a voluntary demotion toward the end of her career in order supervise the department’s eleven man K9 unit. Her characters talk like real cops, think like real supervisors, and react like real people.

Prior to joining the police department, Alison earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in creative writing from the University of Arizona. When she retired, Alison went back to doing what she had always wanted to do—write. Her first book, The Door at the Top of the Stairs combines her insights into human nature with her knowledge of the darker side of the human psyche. To find out more, go to her website at alisonholtbooks.com.

Alison's life as a cop gave her a bizarre sense of humor, a realistic look at life, and an intricate knowledge of the darker side of the human psyche. She loves all horses & hounds and some humans…

    awesome book

A fast moving and is a very interesting read. I started reading this yesterday with no intention of reading it all right away because I had things to do but I ended up losing track of time and read the entire book in one afternoon. I just couldn't put it down.
If you are into psychological suspense novels then I suggest you read this book. You will not be disappointed and will not want to put it down.

    Wowee! A Must Read!

    Wowee.

This book was amazing, powerful and I couldn't put it down.

When I read the description of the book I wasn't expecting what was beyond the cover. I felt as if I were Jesse, reliving these terrifying events that stole part of her life. I.. felt.. it. Such an emotional roller coaster and such amazing characters.

There were times I laughed, times I cried, times I wanted to shout to Ryland and tell her to stop it! I haven't had a book capture me like this in a long time. To where I don't just want to read it... I have to read it. Where it's just as important to me to finish as it is to Jesse.

These characters.. were truly outstanding and developed so well. In fact Morgan, I believe, was written after my grandmothers sister Joe. Morgan was that real to me. She's someone I know.

All I can say is when you decided (not if) be prepared to sink yourself into this powerful, emotional, wonderful story of tragedy, hope, inspiration, courage and friendship.

Get Ready for a fast ride!

This has got to be one of the best psychological thrillers I've read in a long time. Brilliantly written with descriptive details forcing you to turn the pages to find out what happens next. You will find yourself at the end before you know it!

Jesse was a mouthy woman with a bad attitude looking for work. When she comes to Morgan's farm, both woman have met their match. Luckily for Jesse, Morgan's partner Ry is a psychologist who is willing to come out of retirement to help her face her demons.

Morgan is always ready to fire Jesse on a dime, but Ry sees a damaged woman in need of being saved. Convincing Morgan to reign in her temper, both woman take Jesse under their wings as she relives the torture she once faced as a cop. Unable to remember what exactly happened to her, the only thing Jesse does remember is that she was a cop and they threw her away as damaged goods.

As the wounds are re-opened and the memories come flooding back, Morgan and Ry must keep their own emotions wrapped up tight as they help Jesse to relive the the torture of when she was kidnapped and move on to healing. Will they be able to reach her before it's too late?

This was my first experience with Holt's work, and I am so glad I was given the opportunity. Holt has a fantastical way of drawing you in, making you feel like you are really there and vividly seeing what she sees in her mind. This is one book you won't want to pass up if you get the chance to read it!

    Well Written

Deep and hidden memories, new-found friends to help, a job that helps with the pain....Jesse had all of these, but could the pain go away?

When Jesse arrives on Morgan and Ryland's farm for a job, the conflict between Jesse and Morgan was instantaneous...they both were head strong and wanted to be in control. Morgan had a great life as owner of a profitable farm, Ryland was the calm, retired psychoanalyst, and Jesse was 26 with horrible memories of torture that affected her daily life and memories that she couldn't get to surface.

Using her professional skills, Ryland set up a session each day at one o'clock to try to help Jesse get rid of the demons that were plaguing her and causing her to have unbearable headaches. The sessions were tortuous for all, but they must help Jesse. Jesse was difficult, but they understood why....she was always ready for a fight, and did get into a few. They all agreed, though, that whatever it takes to cure Jesse is what they would do. Of course, there were others who tried to get in their way and cause more problems.

The book had excellent details of situations and the characters' feelings....you could easily visualize each scene and experience the emotions. Ms. Holt did a superb job with getting you involved..the book definitely held your interest, and made you hopeful that Jesse would finally get well. The book reminds the reader that the mind is very powerful, but also very fragile.

Just an ending note...I would classify some parts of this book as a thriller...so don't expect all sweetness and light...there are some brutal scenes. 5/5
