You know what happens to all those girls who are just crazy about horses?
Once they discover boys, the horses are history.
Or maybe not.
For Lizzy, and others like her, no boy, no man who knows what's good for him, speaks the unspeakable-"It's me or the horse."
It's no contest.
And so Lizzy snips the threads that hold her, however tenuously, to a conventional life and begins her journey into the world of horse sports.
She signs on as a working student for dressage superstar Margot Fanning, heading to south Florida with her six year old mare, for "the season."
She immerses herself in an extraordinary world of high-dollar horses and ambitious women and receives an incredible education in more than just riding dressage.
And she's taking notes.
Welcome to The Dressage Chronicles.

Great book! A must for horse lovers of all kinds.

As a (former) working student, I can say that she definitely did a great job portraying the ups and downs of working in a high class barn. The characters were all great and even if you didn't like them, they all had depth that made you appreciate their contribution to the story. Just an absolutely fantastic book. I've already read it twice!

    Great Read

What a wonderful book! As a dressage rider it was so refreshing to read a horse book that wasn't like every other horse book out there. I can't wait until the others come out!!

    Authentic and heartwarming...

Ms McGoldrick has nailed the first rule of good prose -- write what you know. As a dressage rider / competitor myself, I approached the novel with some trepidation; I wondered if the author would "get it right" or sacrifice authenticity for drama. However, she struck a perfect balance between truth and fiction -- the result is an eminently readable first novel that accurately represents the ups and downs of life in the horse industry. Overall, it's an enjoyable book that also has the unique power to motivate readers to work toward their own goals. I look forward to (hopefully) seeing more from this author.

I honestly couldn't put this book down. I've been looking into dressage riding lately, and I figured reading a fictional book about it would be fun. While the book doesn't give you specific details about the discipline itself, it gives you a look into the life of rich riders and hired help. As a ridder, I can relate to how Lizzy often felt tired and doubted her abilities. Overall, this book was written excellently, and was packed with exciting and relatable descriptions of the high end horse world. I highly recommend it.

The Dressage Chronicles really made me wish I was still young enough to try the hard world of being a working student. This book attested to the fact that a working student has very long days and hard work, but has the opportunity to reap the rewards of training under a top level instructor. And let’s not forget the horses you would be able to learn on! This book covered all of that in a great story with interesting characters. This book follows the main character, Lizzy, as she begins her new life as a working student and quest to become a Grand Prix dressage rider. I found the characters endearing from the fabulous trainer Margot we all want to train daily with, the financial means of Francesca, the super organized and fashionable Emma, and even the typical barn dogs, the Jack Russell terriers. I felt for Lizzy as she tried so hard to do her work well and efficiently, to fit in and find her place at the barn, and as she worked to learn upper level dressage moves on a seasoned horse. This book was fantastic! You can definitely tell the author is a seasoned dressage rider herself and a beautiful writer, and you will quickly become engaged into the story. I honestly wouldn’t mind a sequel to continue the adventures with Lizzy. I would definitely recommend this book!

    candy for the dressage soul

The answer to my search for great dressage fiction, with a lot of dressage specific references. Totally loved it, lost sleep b/c I couldn't put it down. I wish there were more, hoping for more, can't believe it's her first!!! Fed my "dressage soul"
