Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Denise Daley
Interactive books allow the reader to choose the ending. In this book readers are presented with alternate endings for situations that confronted individuals and families during America's "Great Dust Bowl." Imagine that you and your family are living on a farm in the southern Great Plains in the early 1930s, the same time as the Great Depression. A drought has caused many crops to fail and the dust storms are becoming more frequent and intense. Still, giving up your farm and everything that you own is not easy. Do you stay on the farm and hope for rain or do you leave everything and start anew somewhere else? Still another option: do you take a government job? Each decision produces different results. In all, there are three story paths with fifty-three choices and nineteen various endings. This difficult period in our country's history is explained in a unique and intriguing format that involves the reader. The numerous photographs add to the realism. This intriguing and well-written book is part of the "An Interactive History Adventure" series. Reviewer: Denise Daley
