Overview

"Take It Easy.” "Lyin' Eyes.” "One of These Nights.” "Hotel California.” These songs are among the most memorable ever written, and they all came from one amazing band: the Eagles. This gorgeous volume traces the history of the group from the late 1960s through to the present. Capturing the albums, the tours, the fights, the triumphs, the awards, and the remarkable freezing over of hell (otherwise known as their 1994 reunion tour), The Eagles offers a truly unique look at how the group exported the Southern California lifestyle to every corner of the world.

Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble

When The Eagles began their 2010 tour in April, they were continuing a career that began in 1971. Of course, the skein was not uninterrupted: The Rock Hall of Famers were on hiatus from 1980 to 1994. ("For the record," one of them asserted, "we never broke up, we just took a 14-year vacation.") The Eagles: An American Band lays out the whole raucous history of this headline-making band in a lavishly illustrated, exuberantly researched hardcover.

Library Journal
In this superficial chronicle of The Eagles' rise to fame, Vaughan (founding editor, Country Music International magazine) narrates briefly the history of each original band member and their early bands; the band's early successes, culminating in Hotel California; their famously bitter breakup; and their equally famous reunion on the Hell Freezes Over Tour, which produced the album of the same name. Along the way, Vaughan provides perfunctory interpretations of each of the band's albums, and the history of the band is chock-full of photographs of The Eagles during various phases of their careers. VERDICT A nice picture book that doesn't add anything to our knowledge of the band and its history. With so many good Eagles books already available, this one is only for those who want a complete collection.—Henry L. Carrigan Jr., Evanston, IL

    Text too small

I don,t like these so called page perfect books. They only fill a third of the screen and the font size is too small to read comfortably. There is no way to increase font size.

Highly Recommended - not the same old boring writer at all!!

There are some people who write books who are very smart but very boring. Andrew Vaughan makes reading a book seem like watching a movie. He encapsulates the essence of the band - both good and bad - and he's able to write objectively without being weighed down by pompous accusations or sensationalism to get sales. I wish I could go to this book signing but I'm not close enough. Anything Andrew Vaughan writes is bound to be exceptional.
