    Not a typical historical romance

I really appreciates the characters in this novel. Hebe and Alex had an interesting courtship, and their adventure continue in ways that I did not expect. Ms. Allen had her characters discuss things frankly, which I appreciated. Even their misunderstandings were logical, based in what we knew about them. I borrowed this from the library, but now I'm going to buy more of Ms. Allen's books!

    And enjoyable Novel

I enjoyed this book for the most part. The scenes were never sluggish, and they were embellished with clear details. Their world came alive by the way Allen wrote this: the conversations were real and interesting, the relationship between Alex and Hebe (however delicate) took turns that were unexpected, and I ended up rooting for their future. Hebe seemed a little detached towards the end, but just when I thought I should give up on a happy ending, it turned the tides for a very acceptable finalization.

I did not care for this book

I love to read. I will read anything. If I start it, I will finish it. I finished this book just because I cannot stand to leave a book unread. I was not impressed with this book at all. It was a little too far fetched for my taste. The only reason I picked up the book was because it was connected with another book I read.
