Better to buy another book -

This book is very simplistic in nature. It contains outright incorrect information like the statement that modern light dimmers are resistive in nature and waste as much power as they control. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Modern light dimmers are based on semiconductor technology and are considered very efficient. The thrust of the book seems to be descriptions of real world experiences based on a 'do it your way' approach undertaken without thoroughly researching this involved subject. The resulting frustrations of taking such an approach would rapidly become apparent to anyone taking a similar approach and then encountering things like the National Electric Code and municipal inspectors who are required to follow those codes. Quality research of this involved subject will avert similar experiences for anyone wanting to power their home with solar electric energy. I think this book is more of a 'how not to' book than a 'how to' book. While it is possible to learn from the mistakes of others, I would have appreciated a book based on solid information that this book often lacks. There is some good information in the book, however, I think the benefits of the good information in the book are potentially spoiled for the layperson who does not understand electronics or have knowledge of electronic devices and, thus, will not be able to spot the incorrect information. The technical person will most likely find this book too simplistic and may also be as put off by the incorrect information as I was. In short, I cannot recommed this book.
