After a tragic accident, Araya Noelle is left with a constant reminder that nothing is forever.

She is forced to give up her chance to be the youngest dancer accepted into Julliard & taking over their high society school by a graceful storm of determination is no longer an option. Instead of dwelling over her loss, she accepts the new future she's been dealt. In a world as black as hers, there's no room for bitterness, no time for regret. Sheltered from the outside world, Araya has become suffocated by a life she has no control over. Until Ryland Dare comes crashing into her life.

You don't know true darkness until you've felt light...

Like a firecracker, showering her with colorful sparks of freedom, Ryland quickly sweeps Araya away from her grey existence. For the first time since the accident, living in darkness is no longer something Araya wants to do willingly. Unleashed by the shadows of her reminder, being with Ryland, Araya touches light. Together they will learn what it's like to feel alive for the first time.

DARE them to LIVE

The Edge of Darkness literally had me on the edge of my seat. Melissa Andrea has the ability to pull her readers into the story from the very beginning and keeps you on a roller coaster of emotions until the very end. This book has everything a reader wants in a book... angst, anger, fear, guilt, heartache, drama, sadness, greed, romance, lust, a great plot line, and characters that you can empathize with. To see the relationship between Ryland and Araya develop throughout this story is great. My only disappointment in this book is the ending. It gives you no clue as to whether the story is going to continue. It leaves you wondering what happens between Ryland and Araya... do they go on with their lives and meet someone new? does Ryland finally go after Araya? This is an awesome story but left me with so many questions.

Araya Noelle is dealing with so much tragedy for someone so youn

Araya Noelle is dealing with so much tragedy for someone so young. She still emanates positivity despite her situation, which is one of my favorite aspects of a heroine. But even as Araya is living, she is only just existing…until Ryland Dare comes into her life. He gives her the confidence to overcome the obstacles in her life and want to better her situation. Even as the reader wades through all the heavy aspects of the book, your drawn to Araya because she’s such a strong character.

Ryland Dare is a very affluent son of a very rich family. Despite having the best of everything, he’s completely miserable. Ryland’s life changes when an his errant football hits Araya while she’s in the park. He walks over to Araya to see if she is OK. He is immediately taken with her. She is unlike any of the other vapid girls he use to being with. He knows she’s different and he wants to know her, something he never want to do with women. As Ryland is with Araya, he sees beyond her station in life, eager to help and boost her confidence. But Ryland is taken by surprise when she offers him confidence and loyalty.

The sex scenes in Edge of Darkness are pretty tame compared to what I’m use to reading. But I found it refreshing. Melissa allows the relationship to build between Ryland and Araya. When they finally come together, it’s very emotional and sweet.

The secondary characters hit a wide range of emotions for me. Nothing gets my blood boiling more than crappy parents in a novel. Araya and Ryland’s “parents” are so despicable. I had to put the book down a few times to get over my anger. No wonder you relish the happy times between Ryland and Araya. These people should be shot! Ryland’s brother Sebastian had my heart breaking. He’s clearly staggering through life, coping with his misery through drugs, alcohol, and underground fighting. Ryland’s sister Cara (Careless) is interesting. I had a hard time connecting with her character. She seems to be straddling the line between wanting to be a good person, but can’t avoid the person her parents want her to become. In my opinion, I think her nickname is confusing. I found myself getting a bit annoyed that they gave her such an awful nickname.

Edge of Darkness sets a dark tone early on in the book. As I read, I didn’t see the twist in the story that slapped me upside the head! Melissa Andrea excellent writing gives you just enough information when you need it, letting the story unfold and surprising you as you go. Her lush description of scenes and situations put you right there with the characters. The book does end with a cliffhanger, but don’t worry. The second book is set to come out next month. I give Edge of Darkness 4 out of 5 stars!

Edge of Darkness was all right but I do wish Melissa Andrea would have explain more about what was going on with Araya more towards the beginning of the book where she was talking about the accident. I guess most would have figure it out but with me it didn't click. I'm sure others will love to read about Araya and how she had to cope after a car accident and then living with her aunt that is evil to me. Also you have Ryland that falls for Araya the first time he lays eyes on her and doesn't know what is going on till he gets to know her. See how Araya and Ryland's relationship becomes!

I really loved this book. I enjoyed the characters, the struggles, overcoming the unknown, the happiness, and the sadness. This book was a little bit of everything wrapped into one huge ball of awesomeness. I love when I read a book and I can't figure everything out at once, that sense of suspense and mystery of what's to come is definitely in this book because their are things that I never saw coming and that's what I love! I cannot wait to read the next book in this series. Thank you very much for an awesome read!

From the beginning of this book I was captivated. This story is different than ones I've read before, which is good, it's stands out.

Araya and Rylands story is so heartwarming and sweet. It's a story of the truest kind of love, one that is unselfish and unconditional.

There are so many bookmarks of favorite scenes in this book that I might as well have highlighted the entire thing!

Araya spends her life in the dark until Ryland brings in his light. I love that he challenges her and encourages her to be who she is. I just love Ryland in general. He makes Prince Charming look like a schmuck.

The steamy moments in this book were hot but so vivid and romantic at the same time. The author's descriptions make you feel every tingle, every touch.

The ending...I won't spoil it, but I need book 2 like yesterday!

More, more and more please!!!! I received this copy for my honest review. So thank you!!!

I did not want this story to come to an end!! How can we just stop with an ending like that? This book took me to an all new life. The way I view things and people. I love how Araya things about the situation she was forced into. My heart breaks for her, and happy for her all at the same time. How do you see light in the darkness?
Ryland, oh Ryland!! He didn't have a chance. Yeah maybe he thought he would never fall in love, But he was SO wrong. I loved every part of this book. The ending took me by surprise, but what a good way to end book 1 and to start book 2. Knowing how cruel and hateful people can be is hard, but actually reading it in you head, and your heart. It takes you to a whole new level. Seeing Araya in the beginning and how she changed all the way threw made me happy! I cried and laughed and cried some more. lol My heart hurt when the Dare's treated her like an animal! Even her own family. How can somebody be so cruel? Ryland became her light. He changed so much threw out the book as well. Going from a player who can not love, to a man who found what he wanted and what he was willing to fight for.
This is a must read!!!!!!!! And looking forward to reading book 2 in this series.

I could not put this book down....
From start to finish I was so captivated, so engrossed in this story that Araya and Ryland are forever pieces of my heart...
This book is beyond amazing and 5 stars don't do it justice...

    Full Review:
Ok, I hope I have gathered myself enough to provide a review that encompasses just how much I loved this book....

After opening up to the first page and reading the prologue, I was completely immersed and knew that this tale was going to be one that kept me hanging on by tooth and nail as well as keeping my insides in complete knots. I mean, immediately, you are crippled with the event you are witnessing. Your heart is reaching out and wanting to pull this young girl in and hold her for all its worth.
But, that is the beginning and as we jump in and find out the how's and why's, we get to meet the most special and compassionate person ever, Araya. Living in a world of darkness with an aunt and uncle that is just plain horrid, you find Araya's outlook on life refreshing. Although when we are introduced to her world, we find that she is only surviving and not really living; until we meet Ryland.
I wanna say that Ryland has the life we all dream of, big fancy house, money, family...but that is how it all seems on the outside. Once you walk through the doors of the Dare house, you find not a trace of love from the biological side but from the housekeeper who throughout this story imparts the love and wisdom that the Dare children need.
Now, there are some major events and details that I am not going to reveal. Which also hinders in me giving you all of how I felt...
    But, I can say this...
Melissa Andrea wrote a beautiful piece of art. It is one of those that becomes a part of you. She captured me with creating two people who had so much wrong in their lives yet together were the rays of sunshine to each other. I fell head over heels for Ryland. The romance that Araya and Ryland shared was electric in the beginning and slowly built to be one of epic proportions.
My heart was carried through so many emotions while reading The Edge of Darkness. From the steamy moments....causing your heart to race, to the twisted evil events...that cause your blood to boil with rage. You FEEEEEL and experience all of this right along with Araya and Ryland; solidifying your connection to these two. *sighs heavily*
A true masterpiece, a love story that will transcend all time...From start to finsh...you heart is held captive by the pure beauty found within these pages. ANNNND....the ending...OMG Melissa Andrea...I can't even comment...All I need to know...When is book 2 coming????
GO...Get this book...it releases May 31...I highly recommend you pick this book up..

    a definite must read

Araya's life is that of darkness. There is no light to shine upon her as she is forced to live a life that was never supposed to be her future. Araya has recognize that this is as good as it will get for her: picking up after her aunt and uncle...2 people who couldn’t care less about her. But one day while at the park she meets Ryland Dare. For the first time in 4 years, something goes right. Something gives her hope. Something brings light to her dimly lit, disheveled life.

I just loved this story. If it wasn't for trying to get our house ready to sell, I would have had this book finished within a day…day and a half max. It was just that good. I loved the characters and the whole scheme. But I am not going to tell you what it is exactly...oh no…that is a surprise. That is something the author wants everyone to experience firsthand without a third party telling you all about it. Trust me though, you will love not knowing what is going on until it happens. It makes the story that much sweeter.

Ok, moving on. Lets talk about Ryland Dare. I love that he is honest about who and what he is: a Class A User of women. But he is upfront about that fact and it doesn't seem to have hurt him in the past. But his sister wants him to not be that way with Araya. While his sister is tutoring Araya, she wants him to stay far, far away. She knows that he will crush her in the end and knows that Araya doesn't need that in her life right now. But Ryland is bound and determined to get to know her more and find out her secrets. Secrets that could send him running if she allows him close enough.

This is where I introduce you to Araya. She is one of the most sweetest, most kindest characters you will ever come across. For all that she has been through and going through, you'd expect her to be mean and nasty and resentful. But you will not find any of that lurking within her. She is as good as they come. I just adored her. And bless her heart for all the things that she has never, what so ever, experienced in her life. That girl has seriously missed out on some fun. You will see what I am talking about once you read the book.

THE EDGE OF DARKNESS was one of my favorites to read this year. I love that there will be another book...because after that ending…us readers have to know what will happen to these guys. I am dying to know if they will find their happily ever after. I am itching to see where life takes them. Trust me when I say you will want to read this one. Yes, it is a definite must read.
