Overview

Remember that special summer when you realized you'd grown up? The Edge of the Water has universal appeal for all ages.

Now in his mid 50s, Doug Wallace takes a look back at the summer that not only changed, but directed, his life for almost 30 years. Although the novel is set in the 60s, it is not about the 60s. Anyone who has ever worked a summer job away from home or who remembers what it was like to start making adult decisions during their teen years will recall memories of that certain summer.

The Edge of the Water is one part "Catcher in the Rye," one part "Stand By Me," and a little bit of "Trainspotting." There are a few tears, a lot of laughs, and some of the most colorful people the South has to offer.

This funny and touching book is filled with wonderful characters. You will meet at least one person who will remind you of yourself or someone you know. A great story about taking the leap into adulthood.

I started this book and was immediately transported back to my teenage years. Even though the character is male (and I am not) I could relate and remember!! There is a laugh on almost every page and some tears on others. What a delightful and completely entertaining novel. I look forward to many more by this new author.
