About the Author

Abul Pitre is professor and department head of educational leadership and counseling at Prairie View A&M University, where he teaches Multicultural Education for Educational Leaders, and Leadership. He was appointed Edinboro University’s first named professor for his outstanding work in African-American education and held the distinguished title of the Carter G. Woodson Professor of Education.
Abul Pitre is professor and chair of the Department of Africana Studies at San Francisco State University. He teaches courses such as The Life and Thought of Elijah Muhammad, Hip Hop Workshop, Black Religion, Critical Black Pedagogy, and a wide range of subjects -- including education,?leadership, critical pedagogy, and Nation of Islam Studies.? Pitre has authored, edited, and co-edited 29 books, including several with Rowman&Littlefield.? He is best known for The Educational Philosophy of Elijah Muhammad and A Critical Black Pedagogy Reader: The Brothers Speak. He was on a panel with Dr. Cornel West where he discussed his most recent book, Liberation Pedagogy: Elijah Muhammad and the Art of Soul Crafting.
