Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
The Emperor wanted a new pair of slippers, so he asked the shoemaker if his elves could do the job. In return he promised that the queen would make the elves new suits. The Emperor was so pleased that he dressed in his velvet robe and crown and took a stroll around the town. What's more, he wore them everywhere—to the market, to the races and even on his ship. While at the market a young boy shouted that the Emperor was wearing his pajamas. He decided that he did indeed need a new suit and a pair of matching shoes, but when he appeared at the royal banquet his suit was quite a surprise. The closing page has notes for adults as well as suggestions for activities before and after reading the book. "Tadpole Fairytales Jumbles" are designed for transitional and early fluent reader. They are dependent on the readers knowing the original rhyme so they can appreciate the unique twist on traditional tales. This is a Guided Reading Level E text. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
