The ember of governance - the Shiites of Iraq and the travails of building the state and nation after 2003
The symbolic fall of the dictator's statue on April 9, 2003 constituted a defining moment in the history of Iraq, and the Shiites in it in particular, as it signaled the opening of endless questions about the nature of the image of the regime and the position of Shiite Iraqis towards it. While the Shiites lived, forced or willing, under a doctrine and history of rejection and distancing themselves from power before 2003 AD, they seemed to be at the forefront of responsibility for building the state and the nation after it. In this book, the writer seeks to investigate the nature of the Shiite Arabs' response to the requirements of governance on the one hand, and dealing with heritage on the other hand. The writer is interested in answering many questions, including: What are the dynamics of disconnection and communication between the Shiites and the other (sectarian and nationalist)? What is the contribution of the Shiites to building the state and building the nation in Iraq, success and failure? I hope that this book will be a serious academic addition to the field of Shiite political sociology.
