This is the book I just wish Jessica Simpson could get her hands on so she can better deal with her really creepy dad. It would definitely help. The author knows what she is talking about and lays it out for you in a vivid conversational narative. Being in the syndrome is so emotionally confusing. Reading this book gave me the words to describe what was going on and the red flags to watch out for. It was a seminal work on my path to autonomy.
When I first read this book in 1991, I thought I was reading my autobiography. What an eye opener and it changed my life completely! I recommend it to many of my clients to enlighten their unconscious emotional enmeshment with an intrusive parent. I can't recommend enough. It has changed many lives in my practice!
I sobbed when I read this book. It made me realize so much about why I've been a classic underachiever my whole life. If you have a parent who either criticizes you too much or uses you for emotional support they should be getting from a spouse, this is a MUST read.
