Easy to read... fascinating... even better than Emotional Intelligence

This is the best non-fiction book I have read during 2002. It has helped me to understand some of my own behaviours and has offered me practical ways of improving the way I deal with my feelings and emotions and those of other people. I did not expect to be so absorbed by such a large book (it runs to over 400 pages) but I have hardly been able to put it down and have finished it within two weeks. Six weeks ago, I was given a copy of "Emotional Intelligence", a book written about ten years ago which has become quite a best seller. I found it interesting and informative, but rather patchy, especially in the second half. By chance, after reading it, I came across "The Emotional Revolution" amongst the new books on display in our local library. So I have read the two books in close succession. In my view "The Emotional Revolution" is at least twice as good because it is more readable, more informative, and more practical. This is not a dry text-book. Most of the information is illustrated with stories of real people, discoveries that have been made in research and things that a person can do when dealing with particular emotions. The first half of the book explains why we have emotions and the links between emotions, feelings, memory, and desire. Emotions profoundly affect our physical health. The second half of the book looks in detail at some emotions that can "kill or cure". There are chapters on fear and anxiety, anger and rage, love and lust, sadness and depression, and happiness and euphoria. Each chapter contains practical tips for people who have problems with these particular emotions. The final chapter of the book discusses pathways to change, including methods used in psychotherapy. Perhaps the best recommendation I can give is to say that now, having read the book, I have come to this web site to buy it. I have tried to buy it at our bookshops here in Sydney, Australia but the book is not yet in stock. Perhaps the publishers are waiting for the paperback version, due out next March, before they distribute the book overseas. Not a good move in my view. This book will become a best seller.
