Completely over the top - but fun!

The Empress' New Clothes is the first book in Jaid Black's Trek Mi Q'an series. Kyra Summers is spending her vacation at a resort that specializes in stress relief and relaxation with her best friend Geris. She is completely clueless that meanwhile, in a galaxy far, far away, the Emperor of Trek Mi Q'an has learned that his queen shall be none other than Kyra Summers. Zor takes a trip to Earth to pick up his destined mate. He finds her outside the resort and whisks her away to his planet. There Kyra must learn the new customs of Zor's world and succumb to his passionate nature.

This book was a lot of fun. It's hokey and over-the-top, but it is also entertaining as all get out. So the theme is a fish out of water. Kyra is taken to another world, existing in another time. It's nothing at all what she is accustomed to and she must learn a whole new way of life. This is the part of the story that I was most interested in and found entertaining.

Since this is an erotic romance there is a lot of sex in this book. The customs on this particular world all seem to revolve around sex. I liked reading about the different customs, but after a while I was bored with the sex. It just seemed like the sex scenes became repetitive. Wash, rinse and repeat. Boooorrring. The entertainment for me came from Kyra finding out the hard way certain customs. That was always good for a laugh. Zor was completely clueless as to what Kyra would accept and not accept as a custom. I actually enjoyed reading this book, but it is no literary classic. If you like Sci-fi and enjoy a good laugh, then you might want to give this one a try.

    An awesome and unique read!

I enjoyed this e-read a lot. Filled with tons of Characters and humorous banter helped to back the story to let it flow well, not to mention filled with YUMMY erotic scenes. I look forward to reading the other books in this series!

It's taken me sometime to write this review because I could not

It's taken me sometime to write this review because I could not reconcile in my mind the book I read with the reviews about it. I've read other Jaid Black books, and loved them. So, my previous reading experience along with the 4 and 5 star reviews added to a great sense of anticipation. My advice: Skip this one and move to the next book on your list. TRUST ME.

Where to begin, the book starts out interesting enough, but the moment the two main characters meet it's all downhill from there. The characters are one dimensional, card board cut out.

Zor: In a word? Well, neanderthal comes to mind. His only thoughts were about himself, what he needed, wanted, felt. He never took the time to educate his "sacred mate" about his world, society, her duties, societal expectations. His immediate response so anything she did not know was to insult her home planet. What was likable about this guy? Not a thing.

Kyra: Our heroine with no backbone. She's uncomfortable with everything from the beginning but goes along with it all with amazing ease, giving in at every turn. From the sheer clothing, to orgasming in the bath with strangers, to being forced to let her brother-in-law "gentle" her and then having to walk around naked whenever alone with him, are all things she starts out immensely uncomfortable with, until suddenly she's very comfortable with it all. It made no sense.

Geris: Kyra's best friend, an African-American woman. Was she a stereotypical cut out? Without a doubt - from her speech to her tantrums. At least she had a backbone though. She gave her husband hell and didn't back down. I did find it frustrating that after all the surprises her husband put her through, that Kyra never did warn Geris of what to expect. What kind of best friend was Kyra?

The secondary plot of a rebellion was paper thin, not at all fleshed out or thought out, but honestly that describes the whole book. Such as, how is a human woman able to give birth to eggs? And why do their breasts engorge with sweet juice instead of milk? Was there some fundamental change in their genetic make-up I missed? Overall, it seemed this author bit off more than she could chew with this story. A Sci-Fi story with world-building, should be carefully crafted and plotted out, not slapped together with sex-scenes as the glue.

Maybe I expect too much from my erotic reads. I do expect that if I'm buying a book that the story is a good one overall, that the characters will be interesting or at least likable. While, I'm sure I'll read another Jaid Black book in the future, I wont' be reading another in this series.

    STEAMY & FUN!

This book is loaded with highly erotic & steamy sex along with well placed humor. The characters are memorable & sexy! I've only had this book a week & already have ready it 3 times! While the plot is a little weak the sexy scenes and characters more than make up for it! This was the first book I've read of Jaid Black's 'Trek' stories, but I've ordered from B&N the rest of the series and cant wait to read those. This book is a definite keeper & one of my top 10 favorites.

I didn't enjoy this book. I only read a few pages when I became bored and embarrassed.

At first, I had a lot of trouble tolerating the treatment of the women in this book. But then as I continued reading the author made it seem as if the ladies were happy with there lot so I decided who am I to judge though I myself would never be able to stand it.

Okay  her books are good and i think that her series here is also great but what really piss me off is that after her 3rd or 4th book the story goes off in different direction and doesnt finish the other story that it started off with. and its also its a let down big time  because it was just getting good and then theres no other part that continue it on so you know what happen. it just like you pay for half a book only. i am hoping that she write the continuing book cause i want to know what happens

Absolutely a great read! A fantasy come true and yes I love the erotica!

I stumbled upon Jade Black by reading through Something Wicked, This Way Comes. I started to read erotica end of last year and but have been reading paranormal even before. It's something that not everyone is into but I gotta say it has kicked up my love life but ten fold! Reading something that is out of the ordinary and so otherworldly gives me a break from reality and actually is a stress reliever. I love how Jaid Black as well as other authors I've read describe a much bigger otherworldly man and a simple but beautiful woman in a relationship starting first with seduction. Love love love it! I can't get enough no matter how much Jaid Black puts into this book. You can see how the relationship builds between the two. Yes, it can be over the top as another reviewer described but I love it! If I can sport a qi'ka this age and time I would! There's also so much more in the story. I love how Jaid Black will take some time and actually place you in another characters moment and not just describe it through the main characters view. The story also doesn't stop after the first love child. It keeps on going and in no way is it boring.

I also love how Jaid Black has this in a series and has books that are 'a half' instead of book two there's a book one and a half. She's even topped my favorite author to boot! Give a her a try and you won't be disappointed!

    Please don't waste your time

I had to read this as a requirement for a college course that fully supports the argument that standards in higher education are falling. This is mere adolescent, schoolboy harem fantasy on the one hand, and female daydream on the other. For the boys, this is the story of a king and his seraglio. How he inherits or earns entitlement to it is unexplained, and so there is no justification for his title or position. For the ladies, this is the story of a young woman who through no earned or acquired attributes or qualifications comes to be high queen. And boy, does she come. A lot, and that is the book's emphasis. Her only task it to spread leg for the king and be invariably available to him for his gratification. Eerily, underlying the story (weak as it is) is a darker and more sinister subtext. Ms. Black seems to fully embrace and value the jihadi agenda and its oppressive posture toward other cultures and its repression and total subordination of women. That element makes what would otherwise be a merely insipid book insidious as well.

A M @ Z O N has this cheaper. Used to be that prices were the same but lately I've found many books cheaper there than at B&N.
