Overview

With The Energy Cure, Dr. William Bengston presents astonishing evidence that challenges us to totally rethink what we believe about our ability to heal. Drawing on his scientific research, incredible results, and mind-bending questions, Bengston invites us to follow him along his 35-year investigation into the mystery of hands-on healing, and to discover a technique that may activate your healing abilities. Part memoir and part instruction, this provocative book explores:

  • Bengston’s paradigm-shifting experimental results and why they seem so difficult for some medical practitioners to accept
  • Image cycling, a unique preparation method for a hands-on-healing treatment
  • Why traditional Western medicine isn’t always best, the value of skepticism, the strengths of energy medicine, and more

William Bengston, PhD, is a professor of sociology at St. Joseph’s College in New York. In his early twenties, he received hands-on healing that ended his chronic back pain. A self-proclaimed rationalist, he began a 35-year investigation that has made him one of today’s leading researchers into the mystery and power of energy medicine.

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

“In both my professional and personal lives, I have witnessed what Dr. William Bengston shares about energy medicine, and so I can accept and believe what he presents in The Energy Cure. Human beings have enormous healing potential built into them, and they, like all forms of life, can survive a great variety of illnesses—without traditional medical intervention.”
—Bernie Siegel, MD, author of Faith, Hope, and Healing and Help Me to Heal

“Great advances in science and medicine often occur at the edge of knowledge where things don’t fit in. Often the misfits are dismissed by conventional thinkers without a hearing. Where Dr. William Bengston’s work is concerned, this would be a profound mistake, because many precise scientific studies now confirm that healers and healing are real. Somewhere along the line, physicians forgot how to heal, and ‘healing’ became an embarrassment. Bengston is a harbinger of a marvelous trend: the return of healing to medicine.”
—Larry Dossey, MD, author of Healing Words

“Astounding! Is energy healing truly possible? Can cancer be cured? Is there a miracle waiting to be born within each of us? The story of Dr. William Bengston's astonishing proof offers a resounding ‘yes’ to all three questions. This assures us that to trust in the power within is not only desirable, but intelligent. The Energy Cure is the place where hope meets evidence.”
—Cyndi Dale, author of Illuminating the Afterlife and The Subtle Body

William Bengston, PhD has written a very valuable and important book that challenges us all to embrace the full spectrum of healing. THE ENERGY CURE: UNRAVELING THE MYSTERY OF HANDS-ON HEALING introduces us to those aspects of non-Western medicine that too often are dismissed as hokey magic or mind twisting ideas practiced by a segregated sect of would be Medicine Men. But in part thanks to books such as Dr. Bengston's and those by other authors who practice Holistic medicine, acknowledging the fact that our bodies are part of the energy of the universe and that as such can be altered by acting on that flow of energy to foster cures or improvements in physical ailments is a gift the author shares here. We have yet to understand the power of the human brain and the capabilities of concentrated thought and participation in the energy fields that surround us, are within us, and ARE us. Few readers will come away form Bengston's book with skepticism about his message - provided they have minds open to the possibilities we, to now, have ignored. Bengston is obsessed with providing proof of his observations and abilities. His initial exposure to this new realm of attending to human ailments came in 1971 when he met and subsequently worked with Bennett Mayrick, a man able to perform psychic readings and hands on healing. Bengston then struck out on his own and worked in research to justify the credibility of such phenomena, parting way with Mayrick, and finally returning after an absence to his studies and discovering his own abilities to perform and to teach energy healing. The manner in which he leads the reader through this maze of recognition and understanding and examining the proof and then sharing the abilities he discovered is the bulk of this book. If there is a criticism of this book it is the overly long portions that discuss the author's academic journey. He writes very well and one at times wishes he would have edited this initial manuscript to reduce the 'filler' that at times keeps the flow of the coming to understanding and accepting of his ideas and history. But Bengston is obviously a humanist and doubtless fells that his readers should have the benefit of all of his scientific proof to assure that his précis is strongly supported. Indeed, he ends his book (before the very helpful appendices) with the following: 'My hope is that all those who read this book take from it an expanded sense of the resources offered by the Universe, along with a greater awareness of their own potential in calling upon that abundance, not only for healing, but for all aspects of life. The possibilities are infinite. The limitations are our own. Not faith, not belief, but trust.' Grady Harp

An excellent story of Bengston's careful scientific exploration of healing using natural abilities of the mind. He is careful not to pretend knowledge of how such healing works, but his efforts to apply scientific method are commendable. It's hard to see how skeptics can ignore his studies, but, of course, they do.

I enjoyed this book so much, and found the authors story and methodology so credible that I purchased a 2nd copy to give to someone very dear who was dying. The crux of the book is the story of how William Bengston met Bennett Myrick, and became friends after challenging Myrick to prove his professed abilities to Bengsten. Doing just that, Bengsten set almost everything else aside to learn as much as he could from Myrick. In the process, Myrick continued to learn and hone and increase his abilites - which are fascinating. Myrick is interesting - an odd duck, but that just adds to the story. Bengsten so excited by what he learned from Myrick, set out to prove, not only that healing is possible, but that anyone - even the most skeptical of the skeptics can learn this method. Bengsten, a sociology professor at St Joseph's College in NY, made use of the students at St Jos. to find the most skeptical, and teach them. They all were able to learn the methods and perform healings. During the story Bengsten and Myrick parted ways, but Bengsten devoted 35 years to developing, teaching, and trying to prove the methodology, which isn't completely unlike other methods of energy healing. What I most appreciated was that the entire appendices werre devoted to explaining the Energy Cure - how to learn and perform healings. This book is a quick read, and well worth the very reasonable cost. Highly recommended!
