Overview

In hiding who he was, Payton found himself...and the man he would grow to love.

After his brother is kidnapped, Prince Payton Townsend masquerades as an Admiral’s assistant in order to track the culprits through the tangled mysteries of the planet Englor. He finds way more than he bargained for in the form of Marine Colonel Simon Hollister.

Simon is no ordinary soldier. He’s heir to Englor and his life is mapped out for him: throne, bride, and eventually an heir. He never expected a dalliance with Payton to blossom into love, or that the organization that taught him to lead would threaten that love—and their lives.

Danger and intrigue abound as they learn more about their shared enemy, and about each other. What they learn could help them rise above to an enduring love—or pull them apart.

Another Solid Book by J.L. Langley

The Englor Affair is yet another solid book by J.L. Langley. The book is very well written and extremely unique. I love science fiction books but wasn't too big of a fan of Regency novels, however, this book (as well as it's predecessor, My Fair Captain) did a great job of blending the two genres together so she didn't alienate her fan base. My only complaint about this book is that there wasn't a conclusion. The ending seemed abrupt and while I'm going to assume Langley left it that way in order to tie it into another book, it still left me feeling as if Simon and Payton's story wasn't over. Still worth reading.

    My favorite!

While I adore J.L.'s books (especially this series), Englor Affair is by far my favorite of three currently out. I can relate so much to Payton in this particular book and I do hope we see much more of Payton and Simon in future books, I was a little disappointed we didn't see much of them in book 3.

Argh! I tried, I really did, but I just couldn't get into it. I had a hard time getting into the first one, but in the end I enjoyed the characters and the world that was created so I decided to finish it despite my desire to stop.

I think two factors played into my rating:

    1. I could not connect AT ALL with Payton or Simon. I found them to be completely uninteresting characters. Well, I liked Simon a bit. I'll admit to that. And even Payton I liked at first. He was a kick-ass hacker and I liked that. But as soon as he married Simon, he was nothing more than a 'wife'. And don't even get me started in how they accepted their marriage! First it was impossible then there they were, getting married and voila, the people accepted them.

    2. The time frame within the story. Really? They fell in love, solved the big conspiracy behind the kidnapping and changed the planet's view on homosexuality in that small amount of time. Nope. Too much, too fast.

I enjoyed the world on planet Englor, I had no problem with that. I like how the author went about describing all the aspects of the world - from the physical setting to the political aspects of it. Actually I think that the fact that homosexuality was not easily accepted there added to my enjoyment of the story since it differed from the previous book and added a sense of tension to being discovered. But really, did they have to go at it publicly so much? It was like they wanted to get caught even knowing what the Queen had planned for anyone who engaged in such relationships.

By the end I was disappointed in how it all turned out. There were still things unresolved which I'm guessing are addressed on later books. I am sad to say that I am not looking forward to reading more of the series. I truly like J.L. Langley's writing but this book left me flat.
