Overview

Introducing the hilarious new heroine, Mazie Maguire, in Juliet Rosetti’s irresistible debut novel that follows the outrageous adventure of a woman on the run.

Wrongly convicted of killing her philandering husband, Mazie Maguire is three years into her life sentence when fate intervenes—in the form of a tornado. Just like that, she’s on the other side of the fence, running through swamps and cornfields, big box stores and suburban subdivisions. Hoping to find out who really murdered her husband, Mazie must stay a few steps ahead of both the law and her mother-in-law, who would like nothing better than to personally administer Mazie the death penalty via lethal snickerdoodle. With the Feds in hot pursuit and the national media hyping her story, Mazie stumbles upon a vast political conspiracy and a man who might just be worth a conjugal visit—if she survives.

    Quirky and fun read!

This novel was different from the romances I typically read for a couple of reasons. I'm not accustomed to romances being written in first person, but I could easily work through that. But, it also had the hero and heroine separate for a large part of the book (so much so that I actually went back and checked to make sure I was reading a romance and not a mystery). Still, I enjoyed it.

The heroine's voice was quirky and funny. Her love of "The Fugitive" was referenced throughout the book, and she proved she paid attention while watching the movie. Sometimes the situations Mazie found herself in pushed the limits of believability; but the book was so much fun, I happily went along with it.

I wish we'd seen a little more of Ben in the story. With his heart and his determination to help Mazie, he was a true knight in shining armor. He also "grounded" the book from Mazie's mildly surprising level of naiveté.

This was a fun, quick read. I'm definitely glad I had the opportunity to read it.

*I was provided an ARC of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.*

If Stephanie Plum Series and the Fugitive had a baby, you’d get something like “The Escape Diaries: Life and Love on the Lam. This was a fantastically humorous murder mystery.

Wrongly convicted convict, Mazie Maguire, is picked up by a tornado while in prison...kicking into motion Mazie’s unplanned prison break. Desperate to keep her freedom and to prove her innocence Mazie plight is a haphazard trip into a crazy and unbelievably funny adventure. Chased by a crazed plumbing store security guard, surviving a toilet avalanche and being chased by wieners is just of the few of Mazie’s escapades.

A good but not over done love interest, a cult fan club following, great characters, a marvelous plot, very funny antics and a strong mystery make The Escape Diaries and absolutely marvelous book. Don’t miss out on the Mazie Maguire experience.

I adored this book.  Mazi MacGuire is funny, independent, she knows what she wants, and she goes after it come hell or high water.  The perfect chick lit heroine.
Mazi is on the run….and she’s not looking back.
After escaping prison during a freak tornado, Mazi decides to find her husband’s real killer just like her favorite movie escapee.  What she doesn’t plan on is adding on to her single entourage with a yappy dog, a handsome electrician, and two Mexican teenage boys.  Add to that the media coverage of her escape and subsequent fan base, and you’ve got one hell of a reason to stay out from behind a locked cage and find who your real friends are when the going gets tough.  Did I mention her own personal God is names Atticus?  That is just one aspect of The Escape Diaries that will have you reading until the very last page.
I expect there will be more stories from Mazi McGuire and crew, so I am excited about that.  If your fans of Gemma Halliday, Krya Davis, or Meg Cabot; you will absolutely love The Escape Diaries.

Hilarious, well-written, sweet love story, interesting, are all

Hilarious, well-written, sweet love story, interesting, are all appropriate when describing The Escape Diaries. Main character Mazie Maguire, convicted of killing her husband, escapes from prison during a freak tornado using tips she learned from her fellow inmates and from watching The Fugitive. What Mazie finds on the run is not what she expected. Instead of turning her in, people are cheering her on and helping her elude the authorities. One member of her fan club is an intrepid photojournalist/ jack of all trades and is the key to finding the evidence Mazie needs to clear her name. It doesn’t hurt that he is super sexy.

Mazie’s story is less romance and more mystery. Although Labeck shapes up to a valid love interest, what drives the story is not their relationship it is Mazie’s quest to find out who killed her husband and to stay out of jail. I loved Mazie as a character, she’s funny and resourceful. There are several places where I had to suspend belief, for instance the idea that the public would aid a convicted murderer with her escape plans and how she continually thwarts the authorities. However, those are minor issues and I have dealt with less believable plot devices for the sake of a good story. The murder subplot is pretty intricate and in some ways takes away from the relationship that develops between Labeck and Mazie but overall, The Escape Diaries is an enjoyable read.

    285 pages

I found the first 100 pages of this 285 page book slow going. Then the pace picked up until the book was going at a full gallop. It did have some pretty humorous parts, while not laugh out loud funny, I did giggle a lot. The bodyworks exhibit at the museum freaked me out, big time. Ugh! It was almost sickening. In my opinion, this book, while completely unrealistic, was much better than Janet Evanovich's number series. I enjoyed this much more than I expected too. This is the first book in a series of four,( so far) the next one costs $2.99. There is some sex, murder, child exploitation, a bi- sexual transvestite, not very detailed violence, some cursing, the horrible art exhibit and a deranged mother in law. On the plus side, there is a one man romance, great characters, a quirky dog, a complete conclusion and nice editing with very few mistakes. This could be a stand alone book. I think it would make a great movie, unless it was ruined, the way ONE FOR THE MONEY was. I will be reading the next book. This is chick lit and could be read by 16 year olds and up.

    Fun, Fast, Different!

Who would ever think an escape from prison and running for your life while trying to find your husband's real killer could be so funny at times???

Mazie Maguire was falsely accused, convicted and imprisoned for killing her spoiled Momma's Boy, cheating husband. Not funny, he probably deserved it, anyway. right? Mazie sees an opportunity and escapes prison when a tornado hits and chaos is all around her. Her travels and escapades become the stuff of urban legends as she flees for freedom! She becomes a folk hero in the eyes of America and a thorn in the sides of both law enforcement and the real killers! Her perils and pitfalls to freedom are told through her POV with snark, humor and heart.

Our convict hides in a TV van that is returning to the city. So, she is now in the clear, right? Nope, Ben, a TV cameraman knows she is in the van, says nothing to his partner, being intrigued with her story since she was on trial 4 years prior. Ben becomes her cohort in crime, her savior, her hero and manages to steal her heart along the way with his gentle kindness, wit and brains.

Mazie manages to end up right where everything started in search of the truth, but not until she has stolen cars, bikes, and money, all while getting help from everyone from senior citizens to senior high students, as well as a hot cross-dresser. She even manages to uncover the reason for her husband's murder!

The irreverent way this tale is told by Mazie will have you laughing out loud and cheering for her all the way!

Loved this book and funny quirky Mazie. Had me laughing all the way through the book and wondering how she was going to get out of this trouble which seems to follow her around. Loved the story & can't wait for the next book to see what else Mazie does. Nice change of pace from all the suspenseful or romantic books I usually read. Highly recommend this book because of all the laughter & giggles. JudyE

Hilarious and Sweet Debut Novel What an impressive debut novel

    Hilarious and Sweet Debut Novel

What an impressive debut novel The Escape Diaries by Juliet Rosetti is! This is such a funny and adventurous yet sweet romance that takes you on the wild ride of an escaped convict.  The adventures that Mazie Maguire takes you on are hilarious and you will find yourself rooting her on before she even escapes.

Mazie Maguire is in jail for murdering her husband, Kip, who is a no good cheating husband and son of brewing and plumbing tycoon parents.  Unfortunately for Mazie, the murder was all caught on a nanny cam that the previous owners left behind when they moved out that no one knew about.  However fortunately a few years later, when she is outside on garden duty a storm rips through the prison allowing her to escape.  From this moment, the adventures begin.  There is a lot of media coverage of her escape and surprisingly she has a lot of supporters, helping her escape the grasp of the police.  One of these supporters is Bonaparte “Ben” Labeck, who helps her escape from the cops that are right on her tail.  However, did Mazie really kill her husband?  Can Ben help her prove her innocence? How long is she able to escape the law for?

This is such a cute story of an escaped convict.  I personally found the chapter titles that were named “Escape Tip #” hilarious.  I hope that Rosetti turns this debut novel into a series, because Mazie is quite a star and her escapades are so funny.  I would highly recommend this book for any romance reader or anyone that is looking for something different to read.

    Highly recommended - Very creative.

Loved this story. Unique way to write a book. Very creative. Wasn't sure when I first looked at the chapter headings how this book was going turn out but it ended up being great. Full of twist and turns and "how is she going to get out of this one" moments. Kept me interested to the point I missed some sleep cause I couldn't put it down.
