The Essential Greatest Hits Collection [2005 USA Tour Edition]

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - Stephen Thomas Erlewine
This 2005 repackaging was released in time for Neil Diamond's 2005 American tour and contains Columbia/Legacy's 2002 compilation The Essential Neil Diamond as well as a DVD of the 1988 home video Greatest Hits Live, all housed in a double-clamshell jewel box with no new extras. Most die-hard fans will have both of these releases, but casual fans who want a compilation that contains a good sampling of early Bang recordings and latter-day Columbia hits but live versions of tunes from the early '70s that were hits in studio versions released by Uni, along with a document of a latter-day live show, should pick this up.

For those that love Neil Diamond to those that want to become aware of his music which they probably knew some but didn't know who produced it.

I bought this CD primarily for the concert DVD footage. I had previously purchased another Neil Diamond CD/DVD which had more "behind the scenes" DVD footage. Unfortunately, I lost the DVD somewhere (which is still a mystery). I went to B&N and they didn't have it in stock and I thought that I'd give this one a try. Mr. Diamond definitely is a master performer. I'm going to buy the other CD/DVD again because the DVD footage was that good. It even show's him going back on the train to the apartment/house(?) that he grew up in and meeting the current residents.
