A great treasure-trove of adventure books

These are great adventure stories. My only issue with this collection is that the books are arranged in alphabetical order and not in the order written. The three books with Richard Hannay as the main character should be read in the following order: The Thirty-Nine Steps, Greenmantel and Mr Steadfast. The other books don't matter as much but the order should have been: The Half-Hearted, The Watcher by the Threshold, Prester John, The Thirty-Nine Steps, Greenmantel, Mr Steadfast and Huntingtower. Huntingtower introduces Dickson McCunn as the main character. He continues in two books not included in this collection: Castle Gay and The House of the Four Winds. The attitudes and stereotypes about class, race, religion, nations and empire can either offend or give you the marvelous feeling of being totally immersed in world so different from today. Read these for the adventure and you won't be disappointed.

    Great Books

I have only read the books with Richard Hannay as the main character - The Thirty-Nine Steps, Greenmantle, and Mr. Standfast. There are two other Hannay books, apparently, but they are not in this collection. All three of these books are excellent, and I highly recommend them. The Thirty-Nine Steps takes place in Britain just before the outbreak of the First World War, and the other two books take place during the War. For anyone who has seen Hitchcock's film of The Thirty-Nine Steps with Robert Donant, it has almost nothing in common with the book except the title - it does not ruin the book for you.
