    When you look at Maria you want what she’s having. This book tells you how to get it. This book has tons of very detailed information on Maria's lifestyle -- what specifically she eats and does not eat, how she exercises, etc, It also has short Q and As with a lot of other celebrities on their own healthy habits and recommendations (Giada De Laurentis, Khloe Kardashian, Bethanny Frankel, etc.) I also love that there is a great emphasis on the mental and emotional aspect of being healthy and taking care of yourself. An easy read -- not too dense. Also includes a handful of simple recipes. Would recommend.

    At first, when I purchased this book, I was obviously skeptical

    At first, when I purchased this book, I was obviously skeptical - not only am I not a girl (duh), I also wasn't sure how a celebrity fitness book might be able to help me, get me fit, do all that good stuff. When I think of celebrity fitness books, I think of cheesy, tiny, flimsy things that aren't worth the paper they are printed on and don't have a whole lot to do with sound science, actual fitness, proper nutrition, or anything else. More fads than information.




    Maria's book really surprised me in that department. It's not about fads, it isn't about a short-term goal, but more about a lifestyle and how to change your life and outlook on nutrition and fitness. Sure, the title includes the "How I lost 40 lbs" idea to re-enforce the fact that this is a fitness/health book designed to catch people's eyes, but the inside of the book is really more about sensible, sustainable, realistic life changes and ideas to help the average somebody get fit and healthy without going over the top on diet and exercise.




    It's a testament to a celebrity like this to pack in actual, high quality, good information where others have hesitated, gone the easy route, or fed bad information to readers all in the name of selling books and making money.




    Special points for a lot of the recipes in there. It isn't a couple of recipes, or recipes for foods that aren't tasty to eat... it's tons of different recipes with lots of different tastes, textures, flavors, and ingredients, that are not only healthy, but actually tasty and able to be stomached. Anybody who can show me how to eat well and enjoy food while still staying healthy and avoiding bad decisions is a winner for me. Definitely recommend The EveryGirl's Guide to Diet and Fitness, and even though I'm a man, I can imagine the impact this book may have on girls and young women in a very positive way as they grow older; it's not about being skinny, but rather being healthy and making sustainable choices in diet, exercise, nutrition, and more. Love it!
