Wonton Soup

Serves 4

Water for boiling wontons
24 filled wonton dumplings
6 cups chicken broth or stock
½ cup shredded Napa cabbage
salt and pepper, to taste
1 green onion, thinly sliced

1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add the wonton dumplings, making sure there is enough room for them to move about freely. Boil for at least 5 minutes, until the wonton rise to the top and the filling is cooked through. Remove from the pot with a slotted spoon. 2. Bring the chicken stock to a boil. Add the cabbage and cook until tender. Season the broth with salt and pepper. Add the cooked wonton and bring the soup back to a boil. Remove the pot from the heat and add the green onion. When serving, allow 6 wontons per person.

Canned Broth or Homemade Stock?
Many recipes in the book call for chicken broth. Nothing beats a good homemade stock, but canned chicken broth is an acceptable alternative. If possible, choose brands labeled "reduced sodium."

This recipe calls for readymade wontons you can buy at your local Asian grocery store, but you can also try making your own.

    Awesome Chinese Cookbook!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    This is one of the best cookbooks I own. I love Chinese food from restaurants and i've been trying to find a cookbook that can provide a meal that is comparable. Not only are the recipes easy to follow, the ingredients are authentic and easy to find at grocery stores like Woodman's. I've made about 3-4 different recipes and I haven't been disappointed yet. If you love Chinese food, this is the book to buy!

    Great gift item.

    Gave this book to a professional chef from an american eatery. He used it the first night and had fantastic results. Loves the book.

    This was a Christmas gift.

    My daughter loved the book and is already planning on trying some of the recipes, especially the General Tso chicken!

    recipes taste nothing like good chinese take-out

    Purchased this book at my local Barnes and Noble. I went shopping for all the ingredients. I made recipes to exact meas. and ingredients. Every recipe I made tasted nothing like the great chinese restaurants in upstate N.Y.. I can't beleve these recipes went through scrutiny. Every recipe tasted like it came from a 'Better Homes and Garden' cookbook. My opinion is to save your time and money on this book.
