Editorial Reviews

Gladys Hansen
“Francine Brevetti has woven a tale I couldn't put down. San Francisco's history has been immeasurably enriched by its Italian-Americans. They not only knew how to cook and how to eat, they knew how to work hard. She's got it all here. It's a keeper.”
-Gladys Hansen, Author, Denial of Disaster: The Untold and Un-published Photographs of the San Francisco Earthquake and Fire of 1906
John Lescrart
“Through all the ages, the Fior d'Italia has retained its ambience, its glamour, and its magic. This is a wonderful book with a great story to tell. Sit down with it and enjoy a well-told tale of one of the City's true treasures.”
- John T. Lescroart, Author, A Certain Justice, Guilt and many more best selling titles.

Meet the Author

Brevetti, a native of San Francisco, grew up in the city’s Cow Hollow district. She remembers listening to her mother’s stories of her father, Alberto Puccetti, who had worked at the finest Italian restaurant in San Francisco, the Fior d’Italia. Brevetti is a long-time journalist who started her writing career in New York in the late 1970s with America’s oldest daily, The Journal of Commerce. In 1985 she moved to Hong Kong, where she freelanced for almost 13 years. During that time she contributed to American, British, Australian and Asian English-language dailies, magazines and trade journals, mostly on matters of finance and foreign trade but also on travel. During that time she wrote a guidebook to China. She traveled often to the mainland and throughout Southeast Asia. Brevetti stayed to see Hong Kong’s reversion to China’s sovereignty and came back to San Francisco at the end of 1997. She has been working for the Oakland Tribune since 1998 as a regional business writer.
