Overview

Having evolved from power pop to heavier rock back to melodic modern fare, Sanctus Real blend the styles of their previous two efforts on The Face of Love. The quartet takes listeners on a journey to a sonic realm of introspection, restlessness, and unresolved pondering as only they can do. If you swirled together Switchfoot's The Beautiful Letdown, Jars of Clay's Good Monsters and U2's How to Dismantle An Atomic Bomb, the concoction would sound much like this. The influences don't stop there, as traces of Dashboard Confessional, Nine Days, Jeremy Camp, Mae, and others blend seamlessly together. The impetus for a more mid-tempo, insightful record came as band members dealt with difficult circumstances in their personal lives. Drummer Mark Graalman's father was diagnosed with terminal cancer and passed away merely two months later. Original bass player Steve Goodrum was replaced by Dan Gartley. And vocalist Matt Hammitt's grandmother passed away after an ordeal in hospice care. This explains the unsettledness of Face of Love and the absence of more peppy material to rival the hooks on their debut Say It Loud. Still, Hammitt's vocals are so rich and mature that he could practically sing a computer owner's manual to rave reviews. Producer Chris Stevens (Shawn McDonald, Tobymac) was a catalyst in evoking the boys' raw emotions both lyrically and musically. The challenge in presenting this personal material came in meeting expectations of another rock-hard outing.

Sanctus Real's new CD "The Face Of Love" is an incredible combination of musical talent and ingenius songwriting that will only leave you wanting to hear it over and over again. From the spiritual aspects of this album that can be heard in songs such as "Thank You" to the general message of love found in "Don't Give Up," the album covers a wide range of topics that will challenge, inspire, and encourage you all at the same time. However, Sanctus Real does not show any fear of touching hard topics as they prove in "I'm Not Alright" and "Benjamin." But while relating to and singing about the hardships in life, Sanctus Real brings a message of hope and love that anyone of any background or age group can connect with. So if you're looking for an album that will rock your face off, but is still real and deep, I definitely recommend Sanctus Real's "The Face Of Love"!

I am a long-time Sanctus Real fan. I have heard all of there cds with the exception of two of their indie albums. So, as most hardcore fans do, I counted down the days to April 4th. Then, when the cd finally came out, I bought it. I knew it was going to be good, but I wasn't expecting it to be as good as it was. With amazing lyrics, awesome sound, and great vocals, this cd is a must-have. The band has matured tremendously. So, even if you weren't too fond of their previous albums, you should still check this one out. You won't regret it!

Sanctus Real continues to polish their sound, but not their message or their ability to rock! Similar in style to The Goo Goo Dolls, but with a little more crunch and grind. The first track, "I'm Not Alright", completely rocks the house! With two already solid albums under their belt ("Say It Loud" and "Fight The Tide"), their newest album certainly proves their staying power in an industry that continues to grow and change. This album is a must-have!

sanctus has changed the way i listen to this style of music. they've always given like a "feel good" sound, but what sets them apart is writing about SPECIFIC life-changing topics. THIS ALBUM IS AMAZING YOU WILL NOT STOP LISTENING!

The songs are written beautifully and I can guarantee you will be singing the songs in your sleep! I can safely say this is my favorite of all their CDs. Sanctus Real's third album, I'm Not Alright is amazing. It is definitely the most lyrically and musically advanced work the guys have put out so far. A perfect blend of harder rock with more mellow tunes, this album is sure to fit whatever mood you are in. Upbeat and uplifting, this cd gets five stars from me.

This release is possibly the best yet from Sanctus Real! Every song rocks, and the great (slightly edgy and oh-so-good) sound is paired with stellar lyrics. From the openess of "I'm Not Alright" to the sorrow and hope of "Benjamin," this album is fabulous! Some of the best tracks are "I'm Not Alright," "The Face of Love," "Don't Give Up," and "We're Trying." This is a must-have for the music listener! This band is one to watch--and listen to.

This CD is very good, has its good mix of softer hard rock if there is such a thing, and the harder side. The lead singer's voice goes very well with the guitar, and the band I have always thought is very well rounded.

Sanctus Real captured me with Say It Loud and Fight the Tide, but this caps it. The songs are powerful with awesome lyrics and incredible sound. I totally reccomend this CD. It is worth the money.

The Face of Love is an amazing album. The music is a step up from Fight The Tide (the band's previous release) you can tell the band members are continually maturing their skills. The lyrics, while darker than the band's previous releases, are honest, mature, and real. I love that I can relate to so many of the songs, yet they also help push me to new places. There is a nice mix of up-beat rockin' tunes ("Don't Give Up", "Possibilites", "We're Trying"), and some quieter moments as well ("Benjamin", "The Face of Love"). I definitely recommend this album to anyone looking for a solid rock album.

Sanctus Real is a great band. I have their first CD (and love it), so I had to see what "Face of Love is about! I would definetly recommend their CD to anyone, because not only are the songs themselves amazing, but they're family-friendly too! The songs on this CD have inspired me so much. Be sure to check out Sanctus Real's "Face of Love!"

This CD is Totally worth what it costs!!!! I love Matt Hammit's Vocals! The songs have a good message...the first time I heard "I'm Not Alright", I was in awe...I felt like God was right there with me...telling me that it's okay to say I'm not alright... If you like Switchfoot, The Afters, Mainstay, or other artists like those I think you will Love this CD! if you haven't, check out their other CDs... and a little advice, if Sanctus Real comes near you for a concert...Go, they are the best live band I have heard so far...

This album is quite different from the first two albums from Sanctus Real. It is more darker, more emotional and less upbeat but it contains the best songwriting from the band so far as they address personal issues and events. Fav tracks are 'I'm not alright', 'Don't Give up' and 'Benjamin'
